Max's Story

My name is Max and Im looking for my forever home! Im 7 y.o. and weigh 33 lbs. I came to my foster home here in Farmington, MO, from a shelter. I was dumped there after my original owner sold me to someone who then tried to re-sell me online, but couldnt. So yeah, Ive been through a lot. I was so scared and sad and confused! But things are better once SIRA came to get me. My foster mom promised that none of this was my fault and that humans would never let me down again. Now that I realize Im safe here, Ive started to relax. I love to go for walks and to play fetch and tug. Ill toss my toys in the air sometimes to play with them. Im really good at tearing apart squeaky toys to get at the squeaker. And I really like attention from my foster family, especially belly rubs and petting. Im not a lap dog, but I like snuggling up right next to my human. There arent any kids here and my foster mom says little ones are probably not a good match for me since I am easily startled and might nip. I dont live with other dogs, but I am excited to see them when we go outside. I get really uncomfortable when they try to sniff my butt, though. There is a cat here and Im a very good boy I am never aggressive and I dont chase. Im a good boy in the house no accidents and I dont need to be crated. I havent chewed on anything Im not supposed to (just dog toys) and I havent tried to get into the trash. Im not a fan of having my nails trimmed, so foster mom asked the vet to do it. My perfect forever family will have experience with shy/fearful dogs and patience if it takes me a little while to feel safe. Foster mom thinks Id do best as an only dog, since I can be reactive to other dogs getting too close. Im neutered and vaccinated healthy and ready to find my happily ever after! If thats with you, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you so they can make sure well be a good match. Once approved, theyll introduce you to my foster mom, so we can meet!

Shiba Inu Rescue Association's Adoption Policy
So you've seen the beautiful, headstrong breed known as the Shiba Inu. You've researched the breed's characteristics and examined your living situation and decided you are ready to open your home to a Shiba Inu. Here is a brief summary of SIRA's adoption process. For more detailed information please visit our website: www.savingshibas.com/adopt. The best first step if you live in the midwest and are considering adopting from SIRA is to visit our webiste and read through the adoption policies and procedures. Then you can complete our online application to become approved as an adopter. Once you have completed your application, you will receive a confirmation receipt from Google Form. Depending on how many applications we're processing, it may take several days before you hear back. If you have questions about the status of your application, please email adoptsirashibas@gmail.com. The application forms help us learn more about you and your home environment so we can identify any potential challenges and match you with available dogs who will thrive in your home. Once your application is reviewed, our Applicant Approval Coordinator will get in touch with you about scheduling a home visit with a SIRA volunteer in your area. After your home visit is completed and approved you will be able to meet available foster dogs! For questions about the adoption process please send an email adoptsirashibas@gmail.com. SIRA depends on foster families as a critical part of our operation. Foster homes help a newly rescued dog adjust to living in a home environment. They work with SIRA to address any medical needs that the dog may have (including spay/neuter) and nurture and socialize the dog to prepare him/her for adoption. Foster families have the right to adopt their foster dog and participate in the process of approving adoption matches. If you're interested in learning more about becoming a foster home, visit www.savingshibas.com/foster or email fostersirashibas@gmail.com.
