Meet Max

Greetings all. Max here is a handsome, year and a half old, neutered male looking for fun! This boy has a lot of energy and loves running and playing. Human, canine, he’s not picky about his playmates, although small children may not be his best choice as he may knock them down. He likes older kids who throw his toys for him and is pretty good about returning them. Max is a smart boy and would do well with the mental stimulation of training and learning tricks. He is sensitive, so primarily positive training will be most beneficial for him; maybe treat-driven training would work best. He also has shown some reactions that may indicate he was treated roughly/cruelly in the past. He does not like his collar yanked or physically being pushed or pulled to correct his behavior. Before his current foster home, he had growled and nipped at a couple of strangers who yanked on his collar, but he has NOT had any issues in his current foster home. Foster mom has been working on foot, tail, ear pulling, and mouth opening without any reaction. He also was the perfect gentleman at his last vet visit, which included a shot and expressing his anal glands. It would seem he wants to be respected. He is quite the clown when he wants attention and will stare into your eyes and put his paws on your chest for love. He also loves to snuggle and is very sweet. He does need to be crated if you leave the house, as he still has quite a bit of that puppy mischief in him. He’s not destructive to furniture but will shred cardboard or plastic bags if he finds them. Max has been cat-tested and did well.

So, all in all, Max is a great dog with some quirks he is working on. He does need to get his run and play on, and an active family or person would serve him best. Also, having another active, playful dog in the family would be a huge bonus. Max’s foster Mom sees great potential in this boy being a great social dog and companion for the right home. Could it be you?
