Max's Story
Max! This sweet boy came into the shelter in AL and our rescue partners reached out to us to ask us if we would want to help him find a home in Maine- we of course said yes. He is estimated to be about 5 years old and we believe at one point he had a loving home, although he seems to be neglected in recent years. He is a big boy at about 85 lbs but is a true gentle giant. He waits to potty outside at the shelter, which indicates that he is likely potty trained, although we always expect a few accidents when in a new home. He walks well on leash as well and does great with other dogs. He loves everyone he meets at the shelter and is grateful for all the love and attention he is given. He even knows some basic commands such as sit and spin. We know that when you see Max, you will fall in love as well, and agree that he was worth rescuing! Max is currently in AL but will be coming to Maine in mid-September. Interested adopters should assess whether or not they are prepared to meet Max's needs- a single family home with land that is preferably fenced-in would best suit him. Pyrs are not apartment or city dogs. A family that can commit to regular grooming and acknowledge that larger dogs require more food which equals more money is something that Max also requires. Could that be you?

If you think you might be interested in adopting Max or just want to get pre-approved to adopt through us, please fill out an application on our website. Approvals are valid for one year and you will not have the waiting period of an application if you see a dog that you like! Approved adopters are placed on our email list for each transport and receive our Google slides that we send to all pre-approved adopters before posting on Petfinder and our social media and are eligible to attend our meet and greet events.
