Maui's Story

Maui is a very sweet 6 year old Yorkshire Terrier mix. You can see from the pictures that she has a very different look with her hair long vs. short (when we had to shave her down). She is cute either way. She is on the bigger side for a Yorkie and weighs about 18 pounds.

Maui is housebroken. She actually rings a bell on the deck door to go out, so she's pretty smart. She does not like the rain and cold weather so she doesn’t want to go out, but she will. She walks well on a leash and loves her walks. She is not a barker unless it's something very loud (like Camp Peary blowing stuff up).
She loves her foster parents and is very friendly. She originally was a little possessive over food with the other small dogs in her foster home but with just a little time she was fine with them. She would do fine as an only dog but would also be Ok with another dog with proper supervision.

She loves to play with toys and to snuggle in bed with her foster parents.
When she arrived she had ear infections, eye infections and what appeared to be skin allergies. We have treated her eyes and she just needs to be watched going forward to make sure she doesn't get dry eye. Her chronic ear infections left untreated have caused her canals to be thickened so so also may need to be watched for ear infections. She may also need to be on food for sensitive skin/allergies. Because she came in with all these issues that have probably been going on for a long time with no treatment, it's possible once she has had all her issues resolved and someone keeps a good eye on her for any flair ups, she may not have future, eye, ear or skin issues but we don't know that at this time. Whoever adopts her must be able to manage some of these issues and hopefully have experience with dogs that do have these problems.

If you are interested in meeting Maui our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org

She is located in Williamsburg, Va.

Homes Fur Hounds, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
1. Once you have identified the dog(s) you are interested in meeting, you must submit an Adoption Application. You can find the application at https://www.homesfurhounds.org 2. Be patient. We occasionally have a high volume of applications, especially on puppies. 3. If your application is approved you will be contacted to arrange a meet and greet with the dog(s) you are interested in meeting. Whenever we have more than one applicant who is approved, we set up the meet and greet in the order in which the applications were received. 4. We are a small rescue group and do require home checks. Therefore, we only adopt to VA, NC and MD. Exceptions are made for medically needy or seniors if no qualified applicant is located in our adoption area. 5. We do keep applications on file for 6 months, so even if you aren’t selected for a particular dog, if you see another dog of interest, let us know and we will consider your application at that time. 6. Please don’t be offended if you are not selected to adopt. We try to match the dog with the BEST home for them. Just because you weren’t selected for a specific dog does not mean you can’t apply for another one. 7. Our adoption fee is $300.00.
