Mason's Story

NOTE: IF YOU’RE SEEKING A LIVESTOCK GUARDIAN DOG, LOOK AWAY. MASON
IS NOT FOR YOU.

Mason piqued our curiosity, so volunteers held a “Guess His Breed Contest.” According to the DNA test, our friend is 70% Great Pyrenees, 20% Komondor, and 10% Anatolian Shepherd. Our volunteers can also confirm he is 100% Sweet Floof-ball.

Mason arrived at FOPAS having lived his entire life outdoors. The outdoor life created a shy boy who takes a minute to trust new people. Think Gentle Giant ~ a total sweetheart with fleeting self-confidence. Due to his trust issues, Mason is a flight risk. He will require a 6ft fence. It will take the love and patience of a caring
family to gain his trust. We promise you, he is worth it! We also learned that he is scared of children, so he requires a family without children under 13.

The outdoor life also created an amazing companion who LOVES being indoors. He is not suitable as an LGD (Livestock Guardian Dog). During his time in foster care, we learned that Mason is a perfect houseguest. He is independent yet affectionate, crate trained (yet he doesn’t require a crate), and fully house trained. The list of his positive attributes goes on. Due to his breed mix, Mason’s coat requires regular grooming to keep him looking and feeling her best. Please make sure to consider whether you can provide for his grooming needs before applying.

With all that outdoor living and no prevention, you may have already guessed that Mason picked up some unwanted visitors. Heartworms. Aaack! He finished his treatment and is taking it slow for a few weeks. Mason is a shelter favorite. We
absolutely adore him and know you will, too. Give him time to trust you and your life will forever be changed for the better.

PS: After enduring Heartworm Treatment, Mason asked us to give a reminder that Heartworms (and the treatment) are life-threatening. PLEASE make sure your pet receives prevention. Prevention is key! This simple step will keep the tail wags coming.

If you are interested in Mason, please fill out an application here:
https://www.parkvilleshelter.com/adoption-application

FOPAS is primarily run by volunteers who are passionate about animal welfare and are dedicated to our animals for their entire lives. As such, we screen all potential adopters and strive to match each adopter with the perfect fit for their lifestyle and activity level.

All adopters must live within a 4 hour drive of Parkville, Missouri.
