Mary Ann's Story

A060803 Mary Ann; spayed female Akita mix; age 1 year, 1 month; 52.80 lbs
Contact: Calaveras County Animal Services
(209)754-6509
Website: https://animal.calaverasgov.us/
Email: animal@calaverascounty.gov

Please say howdy to Mary Ann!

Mary Ann is a highly energetic dog, perpetually happy and excited about life. When offered a game of fetch, she enthusiastically leapt after the ball but then was comically puzzled about what to do when she caught up with it. Regardless, she got in some very cute zoomies.

Speaking of cute, may we take a moment to squee over those ears? With their deployment at permanent half-mast, Mary Ann appears ready for takeoff at any moment. And get a peek at those sassy, polka-dotted socks. So fashionable!

Brimming with saucy affection, Mary Ann is a vigorous dog with potential to be a delightful companion for an active owner or family. Because she jumps for attention and is quite strong, a home with older children only may be best.

Speaking of jumping, we observed Mary Ann get impressively close to scaling a chain link fence in one of our play areas. She didn't, and perhaps she couldn't have gotten all the way over, but if left unsupervised for an extended period she might try harder. Adequate containment will likely be important to keep this athletic girl safe. 👈

Speaking of jumping again, Mary Ann is very affectionate and adores snuggles and scritches. She will jump right into your lap—all fifty-two pounds of her, with or without an invite. In general, Mary Ann will benefit from training, ahem, including leash training.

Mary Ann seems to do great with all other dogs. Starting next week, we'll start having companion walks and play dates. If we discover any issues with Mary Ann's canine relational skills, we'll update this bio. At this point, our assessment is that Mary Ann will make the right adopter a wonderfully affectionate companion.

Mary Ann is spayed and can go home with you right away.

She keeps her kennel tidy. Though we can't make guarantees, she may already have some house training under her belt.

We do not have information about her attitude toward cats at this time.

As always, a meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home.
