Martha's Story

Hello! I'm Martha. I am a very tall and lanky 4 year old Great Dane, weighing about 105 lbs. I was surrendered by my owner to the Stanislaus Animal Shelter and had a really tough time adjusting to the shelter. I mean, I was used to roaming free on a ranch with my buddies. But Hair of the Dog swooped in and found me a foster home in Oakland. I've settled in now and I'm adjusting to city life just fine. I love leisurely walks around the neighborhood and really enjoy going to fenced in open spaces where I can bound around a little bit. I'm told I'm very graceful and a lot of people want to say hello to me - I like that. I get very excited when I see other dogs so I need a strong owner who can help me learn to restrain my exuberance. I've been going to SPCA trainings to work on this and I'm a model student! The trainer says, because I am so big, my enthusiastic approach might make some dogs nervous. So I'm really hoping to find someone who understands Great Danes (we're super awesome!) and continue my training. Aside from that, I LOVE a good snuggle on the couch, I'm potty trained, and crate trained (it's a really big crate!). I had a little anxiety before when my people would leave, but now that I have a safe spot in my crate, I do fine when I need to be alone. I'm really ready to find my new permanent home. Please fill out an application on the link below to set up a meet and greet with me!

https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HOTD/Dog
