Marshmallow's Story

Breed: English Setter mix
Sex: Male, neutered
Age: 1-2 years
Weight: 53 lb
Location: NC
Good with other dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Yes with slow introduction
Good with kids: Yes
Crate trained: Yes but does not like it
Housebroken: Yes
Health: Very good.
Vaccinations: Current
Heartworm Prevention: Current
Microchip: Yes

This young, playful pup is as sweet as his name suggests! Marshmallow loves being with his people and is never far from your side. Everyone who meets him says the same thing — he’s friendly, beautiful, and full of love. Marshmallow is approximately 1-2 years old and a little over 50 lbs. He was given up when his owner had to move and couldn’t take him or his sister along.

Marshmallow has never met a stranger and gets along great with other dogs and has done well with kids. He has met a cat and did well, though his enthusiastic energy can be a bit much for feline friends. He’s not a picky eater and enjoys his kibble topped with low-fat vanilla yogurt and a splash of salmon oil for breakfast, and a tasty topper at dinner.

While baths and nail trims aren’t his favorite, he’ll tolerate them like a champ. Marshmallow is housebroken, very bright, and already knows sit, stay, down, off, leave (as in leave the kitchen), and walks nicely on leash (unless a cat or squirrel passes by!).

Marshmallow didn’t have the easiest start in life — for long periods of time he and his sister were left in a crate far too small for two dogs. He now suffers from anxiety about being crated and being left alone. His foster mom is helping him learn that his crate is a safe space. He now eats his meals there and has been left in the crate for as much as three hours when his foster mom is gone. He is not yet trustworthy when left outside of the crate when no one is home. When guests come to visit the home, he loves to greet them all, then he settles down peacefully. He really loves people!

Marshmallow will do well with an active family, couple, or single person who can spend lots of time with him. He’s a well-behaved companion who would love to join you on dog-friendly outings and adventures.

If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, and happy best friend who’s always up for a cuddle or a walk, Marshmallow might be your perfect match!

We are a national breed rescue group and our process is designed to make sure we are very careful in the placement of all of our rescue dogs. Here's the link to our online adoption application in case you haven't already started. https://www.abetteresetter.org/adopt There is no cost or obligation for completing the application. Within a few days you'll receive a phone call from one of our volunteers to discuss your application. We do check vet references and conduct home visits. If you haven't been through a breed rescue adoption process, it may seem lengthy at first but it is just intended to make sure each individual/family adopts the right dog for your family and home. In our rescue they are fostered in a home and our intention is that they are never abandoned or let down again.
