Marge's Story

Marge is an adorable 8-week-old Cockapoo puppy who has already had a bit of a rough start in life. This sweet little girl was surrendered to our shelter because she has a medical condition that requires surgery on her knees.

But don't let that fool you! Marge is your typical happy, loving puppy who just wants to play, cuddle, and soak up all the attention she can get! She has no idea that her little legs aren't quite working the way they should.

So what's wrong with Marge's knees?

Marge has a condition called luxating patellas, which means her kneecaps slip out of their normal position instead of staying in the groove where they belong. This can cause discomfort, limping, skipping steps, and eventually arthritis or other joint problems.

To help Marge live a happy, active life, she will need surgery to stabilize her kneecaps. Depending on what her knees need, this may involve deepening the groove where the kneecap sits, adjusting the tissues that hold it in place, and sometimes repositioning where the patellar tendon attaches to the bone. The goal is to keep her kneecaps properly aligned so she can walk, run, and play more comfortably as she grows.

While surgery can greatly improve her quality of life and reduce the risk of future complications, Marge may still have knee-related issues as she gets older. We want her future family to understand that she may need additional veterinary care throughout her life.

Before Marge leaves the shelter, she will have her knee surgery and be spayed. She is current on her age-appropriate vaccinations but will need additional puppy boosters as she grows.

What about Marge's adoption fee?

We have not yet determined Marge's adoption fee because we don't know what her total surgical expenses will be. As a nonprofit shelter, we hope to recover a portion of those costs through her adoption fee so we can continue helping other animals who need expensive medical care.

We understand that her adoption fee may be higher than that of a typical puppy, but Marge will have received significant veterinary care before going to her forever home.

Marge may need a little extra help getting started in life, but she has a whole lifetime of love to give!

We are looking for a family who understands her medical history, is willing to provide any future care she may need, and most importantly, will love her for the sweet little puppy she is.
