Mara/Winnie (no more applications)'s Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Mara/Winnie originally came to us in February 2023. She was adopted soon after and was in that home for over 3 years. Unfortunately, she was returned to us in May 2026 because her owners downsized and had pet limitations at their new apartment. Her name was Mara when she was originally with us, but her people called her Winnie and she is used to that name. She is now around 5 years old and looks to be possibly a border collie/Australian shepherd mix, but it's hard to say. We will need to get her updated on her basic vaccinations and microchipped. Her fee is $150.

Winnie has done really well with other dogs. She's a lovely, well mannered girl who is pretty bewildered to be back in the shelter. She has done well with older kids, too, but may need a home without cats or one that can give her plenty of training to coexist with them. Her former owner did not have cats but told us there had been a couple instances of Winnie chasing cats (but not hurting them) outside. Winnie has had basic training and will require some regular brushing as she does have a pretty long, thick coat.

NOTE: Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org.

We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South.

We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventative, and spayed or neutered.
