Mapi's Story

Meet Mapi!
DOB: February 2026
Weight: 18lbs
Disposition: Curious, Loving, Gentle

Meet Mapi, a sweet and curious girl who is ready to turn the page and find a forever home of her own. Rescued from an abusive situation along with five siblings, three of her littermates have already been adopted, leaving Mapi and her sister Racoon still waiting for their big break. Her name is short for mapache--the Spanish word for raccoon--which perfectly suits her endearing, inquisitive nature. While her past makes her a bit shy and nervous in new situations, a gentle spirit and deeply loving personality lie just beneath the surface, blooming as soon as she feels comfortable. Mapi enjoys peaceful walks, gets along wonderfully with other dogs, and thrives when given a little time to settle in. She would do best in a calm, patient household where she can build her confidence at her own pace and develop a close bond with her person. If you have a soft spot for a resilient soul who just needs a little time to shine, Mapi is ready to show you how rewarding her trust can be.

Interested in adopting?
If you're interested in meeting Mapi, please visit our website to fill out an adoption application: www.thebarkinglot.net/adopt. Our dogs are located in San Diego County, CA. We will happily consider out of town applications and can conduct virtual play dates with interested adopters. We have monthly transport to various locations in the Pacific Northwest, individual arrangements would need to be made for other locations across the US and Canada.

About Angeles en Camino
This dog is part of Angeles en Camino ("Angels on the Way"), a cross-border rescue mission bringing adoptable dogs from Manzanillo, Mexico, to loving homes in Southern California. Sponsored by the Mayor's Office of Manzanillo and made possible through a partnership between Animal Angels ZLO and The Barking Lot, this initiative gives vulnerable dogs a second chance at life while connecting two communities through rescue. To initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. The Barking Lot Rescue's Adoption Policy
Having rescued over 9,000 dogs since our inception in 2006, we are primarily volunteer run with a soft spot for the underdogs. Our Temporary Barkers come from all over the world as we have partnerships with Soi Dog Foundation in Thailand, Four Paws in Cambodia/Vietnam and Ark119 in Korea from which we've taken in over 1000 dog meat trade survivors. We also rescue heavily from Mexico where the abandoned dog population is extensive, the neglect is vast and the stories are heart wrenching. Located on 10 acres in San Diego County, we adopt to anywhere in the US and Canada. Most adopters visit us live to meet our Temporary Barkers, but we also have the capacity to conduct virtual play dates via video. It's our goal to find an excellent match suited to both you and each of our Temporary Barkers. To do such, our adoption process includes an adoption application, a home check, a play date and an adoption contract. Please visit our website today to find your match!
