Mama Zoey & Hero Teddy (Bonded Pair)

Are you looking for a sweet senior? What about two sweet seniors? My name is Zoey, and I'd like to introduce myself and my very best friend, Teddy! I just turned 13 in October, and Teddy is 12. His birthday is on Valentine's Day, and we are inseparable, which is why they call us the Valentine's hounds - Teddy is my Valentine!<br/><br/>Bonded pairs are special in that we do everything together. We cuddle together, go on leash walks well together, play together, and even eat together! We each have our own bowls, but we prefer to eat all the food in one bowl together, then move on to the other bowl to finish it together, too.<br/><br/>We get along with other dogs, we just prefer each other. My Teddy is curious and inquisitive, always exploring and sometimes getting told "no" when he investigates something he shouldn't. I am more laid back, because I am a brood mama. That means I had puppies -- and trust me, after you have puppies, you let them do all of the nosy investigating for you!<br/><br/>I have no prey drive, and I have met and liked children. As long as they have treats or want to pet me, I'm all for it! My kennel team say I am smart, and know to come when my name is called. My favorite thing is laying under the shade trees outside, especially if Teddy is around to lay with me. Everyone says I am "sweet as pie" and in great shape for my age.<br/><br/>Teddy is equally sweet, which is good since we are a package deal. We are also both "hero hounds", as you may have noticed from the logo in our photo gallery! (Sorry most of the photos are of me - I promise Teddy is photogenic, too!)<br/><br/>What is a hero hound, you ask? A "hero hound" is a dog who helps save other pets by donating blood! Many people do not realize what an important role we play in emergency vet care until their own pet needs a blood transfusion. We are also donors for places like universities, who need blood to help better understand treating canine cancer or other illnesses. Who knows - one day I might be the recipient of a treatment I helped scientists create! The blood bank Prison Greyhounds partners with treats all of us hero hounds with special care throughout our lives, because they understand what a valuable job we have.<br/><br/>When we are no longer eligible to donate, or even if we just simply don't enjoy being donors, we retire and enjoy a life of relaxation. Both Teddy and I actually retired quite some time ago, and so we have been living out our golden years as well-loved dogs at the blood bank's kennel. But even though we are welcome to stay forever, both the kennel staff and Prison Greyhounds believe that after so many years of helping others, we hero hounds have earned a retirement filled with comfy couches and an adopter of our very own! <br/><br/>The staff loves getting to know each of us dogs, and the right adopter will understand that we are accustomed to being treated like the heroes we are! That said, being outside the kennel for the first time will be a big change, so Teddy and I would appreciate an adopter who doesn't mind showing us patience as we learn to be a house pet - including new experiences like going on car rides, using the stairs, and asking to go outside.<br/><br/>Teddy and I are waiting patiently to see if someone wants to bring us home for the holidays.
