Maeve 's Story

Hi all! I have an incredibly special puppy looking for her forever home. If you’re not in a place to adopt, please help share her - you would not believe what an impact sharing these posts has 💛

Maeve is about 4 months old, a Shepherd mix, and currently around 25 lbs. She’ll likely grow into a medium to large-sized dog. In classic Shepherd fashion, she is already showing exactly who she’s going to become: alert, curious, loyal, loving, and highly intelligent.

She is incredibly people-oriented but definitely forms strong bonds with her “chosen people.” Once you’re hers, you’re hers. Maeve absolutely LOVES other dogs and truly thrives in canine company - she would do best in a home with a dog sibling to help guide and play with her.

She is very mature for her age and genuinely seems to listen to every word I say to her. That said, she also has a classic Shepherd streak - determined, a little mischievous, and occasionally ornery in the funniest ways - so she needs someone who can provide structure, consistency, and engagement to help her channel all that brilliance. The upside? She remembers everything. It’s honestly remarkable, so she would thrive in a consistent environment.

Maeve has met cats and does okay with them. She may chase if a cat runs, but she doesn’t appear to have a prey drive - she’s mostly just interested in making friends 🤣 She’s also great with kids, though she can get a bit overexcited and has a funny habit of trying to play with the socks on my feet (why socks specifically on my feet? No clue lol), so dog-savvy or slightly older, steady kids would be ideal.

She is phenomenal on a leash and sometimes even picks part of it up in her mouth like she’s “walking herself,” which I find to be the cutest thing ever. She has high mental energy rather than constant physical demand - she doesn’t need to run all day, but she does need stimulation and purpose. Right now, I walk her about 4–5 miles every morning with my dogs, and she happily settles for most of the day afterward. A collagen bone in the afternoon keeps her nicely occupied through the rest of my workday.

She isn’t 100% potty trained yet, but I fully take the blame for this. I currently have four dogs and a busy work schedule, but when she was recently cared for by someone else for a week, she picked up potty training incredibly quickly and didn’t even need pee pads. She’s SO smart and eager to learn. She also seems indifferent about the crate - she’ll often choose to nap there with the door open, or I’ll find her belly up asleep in the middle of the dining room.

At the moment, her two favorite things are her long morning walks (she very quickly learned who her “regulars” are and to immediately sit when she sees them to get a cookie), and trying to befriend my 2 dogs. My boys don’t love fostering (I’m working on making them more
philanthropic), but Maeve is very strategic about it - she’ll lie a foot away and slowly scooch her whole body across the floor until she makes contact with them. She truly deserves her own cuddle buddy.

**They are not spayed yet, but they will be spayed by the rescue at the rescue's expense, adopter needs to bring them to the appointment.

Zen Dog CT's adoption donation for Maeve is $565. This includes vaccines (rabies, dhpp), deworming, fecal testing, and spay.

https://form.jotform.com/ZenDogCT/zen-dog-ct-dog-adoption-application
