Madox is a dog that comes with some baggage, but to someone that understands a Miniature Pincher / Chihuahua, Madox will be your dream come true.<br/><br/>Madox is only 2 years old. SUPER loyal to his person or people. Not a fan of strangers but can warm up if he's given time to size up the new person in his space and realize he's safe. He LOVES the ladies and tolerates the guys.<br/><br/>Madox is a little dog, at only 2.9 KG/6 POUNDS, but he has a HUGE personality to make up for his small stature.<br/><br/>Madox does not like other dogs. Outside he's reactive and will bark and make a huge fuss - thankfully he's only 6 pounds so he's easy to manage. Inside he'll resource guard, according to his original owner and fight a dog, given an opportunity. <br/><br/>His dislike for dogs is what landed him in a Canadian shelter, as he got into a dog fight with a resident dog and when his owners tried to break the fight up, he bit the humans and the other dog.<br/><br/>We see no signs of resource guarding in his foster home and he's been a really great little guy, so a no dog or pet home is needed for Madox to be his happiest self. <br/><br/>Madox does have vocal separation anxiety and his loyalty runs incredibly deep. He just wants to be with his people -- ALL OF THE TIME. He does not like his crate or an x-pen. His fosters have tried crating him overnight and it's a no-go and he'll bark and cry. But bring him into bed with you and he's the perfect sleeping companion, snoring and farting throughout the night in sweet slumber (if you're okay with dog snores and farts - otherwise he's not such a perfect sleeping companion)<br/><br/>Madox knows how to love hard. Loving hard is his speed. And he just doesn't want canine interference. Can it be worked on with training? Yes. He's likely feel better not loving so intensely, but some people also are drawn to this style of love language, but I'd love to see Madox get some professional training support post adoption to see how he can round out.<br/><br/>He's still just a young dog and can learn a lot and grow to be a more independent dog, though Min Pin's and Chihuahua's are really loyal & dedicated dogs.<br/><br/>Though Madox is being fostered in a condo, he'll do best in a home with a secured backyard, so he can have the freedom of fun outdoor time, which he loves, without the stress of having to encounter dogs, to set him off, on every outdoor adventure. And everyone has to leave their homes, so not having shared walls makes managing the vocal separation anxiety easier, as he can bark it out without disruption to neighbours. He does eventually settle down, at least on and off, though he isn't left for hours on end currently.<br/><br/>He'd do best with a WFH or home most often adopter. Or a caretaker he can hang with while his adopter is out of the home; nearby family or friend, without pets in their space.<br/><br/>Madox really is a great little guy. If you know the breeds, you'll "get it". Where he has some dshortfalls in his personality, he really does make up for it with all the love he'll give you. I promise he'll bring a smile to your face (many actually) daily, as he's really a fun guy. He's just peticular in his likes and dislikes, and that's okay. We all have likes an dislikes in our lives. <br/><br/><br/>FROM THE FOSTER:<br/><br/>Madox is such a sweet little guy once he gets comfortable. He loves being close to his people and is happiest when he’s curled up beside you. He follows us around the condo and always wants to know what we’re doing. He also loves burrowing under blankets and making himself cozy. Sometimes when he’s being silly he will stand up and walk on his back legs, or when he’s being sucky he will sit with his front paws tucked up. He loves getting kisses on his chest and standing on you, he doesn’t love having his front paws touched but seems to be more trusting as time goes on. <br/><br/>He has a great appetite and gets very excited for meal time. Right now he has breakfast followed by a morning walk around 7-8am, an afternoon walk, and an evening walk after dinner around 7pm. Sometimes he’ll go for another walk later at night, but if not he’s happy to wait until morning.<br/><br/>He’s doing really well with house training. He used the pee pad twice on his first day here but hasn’t used it since and seems to wait until he’s outside and seems to prefer that. <br/><br/>Inside the home he’s honestly very easy. He’s affectionate, cuddly, and likes being near his people. He doesn’t seem to get into things at all. He explores here and there. While we eat on the couch he sits nicely and doesn’t try to climb on you or get your plate. He doesn’t try to come in the kitchen when cooking for any scraps, he’s very polite. He seems to know sit, leave it, hey! (to get attention and redirect). <br/><br/>Outside is a different story. He barks, lunges, and tries to get to people and dogs. Sometimes there’s an obvious reason and sometimes it seems completely random. We haven’t allowed people or dogs to approach him, so we’re still learning exactly what his triggers are. He also loves spotting birds and would very much like to chase them if given the opportunity. We’ve been trying to work on calmly and nicely watching them instead. It does seem like this behaviour is getting a little better.<br/><br/>He walks well on the leash, but does pull a little bit, he seems very eager and excited. <br/><br/>He really likes being with his people and doesn’t enjoy being left behind. <br/><br/>He’s a really sweet dog and whoever adopts him is going to get a little shadow that always wants to be nearby and snuggled up.<br/><br/>---------------------------------------<br/><br/>$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leashcollar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.<br/><br/>----------------------------------------<br/><br/>To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting.
