Macie and Anderson's Story

Nobody Knows What Sport They’re Playing, But Both Appear to Be Winning

If you're looking for two tiny comedians who treat every morning like it's the best day of their lives, welcome. You've found them.

Meet Macie and Anderson. We don't say this very often, but these two are a package deal. Not because they can't be apart. Because, frankly, why would you break up a team this good?

Macie and Anderson are adorable little Dachshund mixes who came to us from a property where more than 40 dogs lived together. Macie arrived very pregnant, while Anderson was still just a tiny puppy. Somewhere along the way, these two found each other and said, Alright. You. We're doing life together.

While Macie raised her six puppies, Andy was right there beside her every day. He played with the babies, helped teach them the important things in life, and appointed himself Assistant Puppy Manager despite having absolutely no qualifications and being, himself, a puppy. Nobody hired him. Nobody had the heart to fire him. Honestly, morale was high.

Now Macie's babies have grown, but Andy never left her side. They've spent their whole lives together, and watching the two of them is like watching a friendship that has developed its own language, rules, and apparently several sporting events.

Macie is about a year old, around 13 pounds, fully vetted and spayed, with bright blue eyes and the general appearance of a dog who should have people carrying her luggage. Do not be fooled. This woman is ridiculous.

Macie wakes up every morning like somebody just informed her she won a cruise. She's happy, curious, smart, and absolutely convinced there is something exciting happening somewhere on the property and she intends to locate it.

Her signature move is finding Andy in the yard and slowly lowering herself into a crouch. In completely open grass. Nothing covering her. Nothing hiding her. Just thirteen pounds of blonde Dachshund staring directly at him, absolutely certain she has disappeared.

Here we observe the rare Blonde Backyard Tiger... patiently stalking her prey...
Andy can see her. We can see her. People driving past may be able to see her. Macie does not care. Eventually Andy gets close enough and SHE LAUNCHES.

Which brings us to Anderson. Sweet little Andy is around seven months old and about 10 pounds, and his two great loves in this world are Macie and the swimming pool. In that order.

Andy does not actually swim. Andy floats. Every morning, he toddles onto the big shallow step until his little back legs start floating behind him while his front paws remain planted like he's a tiny retired Florida man enjoying the fruits of a long career. No responsibilities. No mortgage. Just a little morning float before the day's activities begin.

Meanwhile, Macie is waiting nearby. Crouched. Invisible. Planning.
Eventually Andy climbs out of the pool. Macie launches. Andy runs. Macie runs. Everybody runs. Nobody knows what sport they're playing, but both appear to be winning.

There are tiny legs. Flying ears. Sudden directional changes. Occasional wrestling. At least one unnecessary victory lap. Eventually they collapse in the grass beside each other, completely exhausted and deeply satisfied with another successful day of accomplishing absolutely nothing.

And then they'll do it again tomorrow.

Because that's the thing about Macie and Anderson: they are happy dogs. Not just tails-wagging happy. They're the kind of happy that becomes contagious.

Macie is the ringleader—the confident, curious little free spirit who believes life is one enormous adventure and she'd like to know why we're all standing around when we could be participating. Andy is her loyal sidekick, happy to follow wherever the day's nonsense takes them. Macie gives Andy confidence. Andy gives Macie someone to ambush. It is a remarkably functional arrangement.

And when they're done being ridiculous, they're affectionate little dogs who love being part of the family. Belly rubs, scratches, cuddles—they're happy to collect payment after a hard day's work in the Backyard Athletic Association.

Their dream home would have a securely fenced yard where they can run, wrestle, chase things they'll never catch, and continue training for whatever sport it is they've invented. And if that home happens to have a pool? Well. Andy may retire there permanently.

Anderson has not yet been neutered. Following our veterinarian's recommendation for Dachshund mixes, we're waiting until he's a little older to allow his skeletal system to finish developing. He will be adopted with a neuter agreement, and neutering will be the responsibility of his adopter once he reaches the appropriate age.

We rarely ask for dogs to be adopted together. But every once in a while, two dogs come along where separating them feels like taking something wonderful and unnecessarily making it less wonderful. These two are family. They've grown up together. They look for each other. They play together. They rest together. And they seem to have collectively decided that whatever happens next, they'd prefer to do it as a team.

Adopt Macie and Anderson and pretty soon you'll be throwing the toy again, getting recruited into the chase, handing out belly rubs between rounds, and somehow becoming emotionally invested in whether Andy has completed his morning float.

And then one day you'll catch yourself standing in the backyard watching Macie crouch down. Andy will notice her. She'll launch. He'll take off. And suddenly you're standing there yelling, “LOOK AT THEM!” to absolutely no one in particular... like the proudest parent at a very poorly organized sporting event.

And honestly? That's about the best way we can describe life with Macie and Anderson. You won't have the slightest idea what's going on. But you'll be very, very proud of them.

See more videos here:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcfrRXzmAkcY

+++++++

What Is a Benefactor Dog or Puppy, and Why Is the Adoption Fee Higher?

Benefactor dogs and puppies are typically specific breed mixes or high-demand rescues who tend to find homes quickly even with a higher adoption fee. These dogs play a special role in our mission.

Their increased fees help cover the costs for dogs who need much more time, care, and resources before they're ready for adoption. Some dogs spend month seven over a year in our care, requiring expensive surgeries, heartworm treatment, behavioral training, or ongoing medical support.

By adopting a Benefactor dog, you're not only giving them a loving home you're also helping to fund the second chance of another dog still waiting for theirs. It's a meaningful way to make a difference beyond just one life.

+++++++

ADOPTION APPLICATION:
https://form.jotform.com/260401018308040

+++++++

Macie and Andy are currently being fostered in Texas and will be transported to the perfect forever home by our rescue! We have transports departing each week!

+++++++

The Truth About Rescue:

Every rescue pup is a work in progress — and thats the beauty of it. None of them come wrapped in a bow, ready-made or mistake-free. They come with stories, quirks, and hearts that have seen a lot but still choose to trust again.

Adoption isn't about perfection; its about presence. Showing up for them, every day, until they know they're finally home. Thats when youll see them bloom — soft and steady — into the very best version of themselves. And somewhere along the way, you'll realize they were never the only one being rescued.

+++++++

Once we have received your application, we will review and reach out to set-up an interview with one of our volunteers! If you have additional questions, please email us at SaintMuttsInquiries@gmail.com.

Note: As with all of our rescues, we recommend homes with children 10 years and over to ensure the best fit for both the pets and families involved.

Check out all of our adoptable pups and learn more about our rescue on our website: www.stmuttsrescue.com
