On a freezing January night—with temperatures in the teens—she, her seven siblings, and their mama were dumped in the woods, left to fend for themselves. But Macie is a survivor. Thanks to quick action and compassionate hearts, they were scooped up and brought into warm, safe, loving foster homes where they've been able to grow and thrive.

Macie is bold. She’s brilliant. She’s all heeler.

Macie is an active, intelligent puppy who is eager to learn. She’s curious about everything and ready to take on whatever adventure comes her way. She loves to play, especially with other dogs who can keep up with her energy, and she’s constantly learning, thinking, and figuring things out. This girl is not here for a boring life—she’s here to live life to the fullest. A fenced yard is best for this curious explorer. And she loves a kiddie pool... so lakes, rivers, water adventures, she's all in!

Heelers are incredible dogs—but they’re not for everyone. They are driven, athletic, and incredibly smart, which means they need structure, training, and enrichment to truly thrive. Without it, they can become frustrated, nippy, or labeled as “too much”—when in reality, they just need the right outlet and guidance.

Because of this, we are prioritizing adopters who know heelers and are fully committed to giving Macie the life she deserves—one filled with activity, purpose, and consistency. She’s not a couch potato, and she’s not going to magically “grow out of it.” She’s going to grow into an incredible, loyal, hardworking companion for the right person with you helping her be the best dog she can be.

Macie does best with passive non-reactive dogs who can match her play style, though we know it can be hard to find the right match without your pup meeting her first. So we may find it easier to place her as an only pet for our out-of-state adopters.

Macie beat the odds once. Now she’s looking for a forever home that won’t let her down—a home that sees her for who she truly is and is ready to embrace it fully. If you think you’re that home, we want to hear from you. Fill out an application below and tell us why YOU should be the one chosen to give Macie the life she’s been waiting for.

________

HOW TO APPLY TO ADOPT:

Start by filling out our online application at www.bit.ly/mu-adopt

Once submitted, we will reach out to approved applicants by phone. We may also suggest other amazing dogs in our care who could be a great fit for your home.

**NOTE: Completed applications take priority over Petfinder inquiries or emails.

LOCATION & TRANSPORT:

This dog is currently in South Mississippi. Local and out-of-town adopters are welcome. For out of town adopters, we offer virtual meet-and-greets and can arrange transport to many states in the Northeast. (The $350 adoption fee includes transport to the city on this listing. Our transports run every 2-3 weeks to that location.) We cannot adopt to Rhode Island due to import restrictions.

VETTING:

All of our dogs are cleared by a licensed veterinarian for transport and arrive to their adopters spayed/neutered with age-appropriate vaccines completed and are microchipped.

To see more of the fur babies we rescue and love, follow us on Facebook: Misfits & Underdogs (www.facebook.com/misfitsunderdogs)
