Macie's Story

Macie came into rescue because her family felt that their lives were too busy and that Macie was not getting the attention she deserved. They asked if we could find her a family who could give her more time and attention. Macie is documented on her paperwork as a mini poodle but she weighs closer to a toy poodle size. Macie is initially shy and standoffish, which is understandable since her whole world has been turned upside down and shes just left the only family she has ever known. She does settle down pretty quickly and once settled, she is friendly but a bit unsure. She would definitely thrive with more one on one attention. She seems to prefer women to men. Her former owner also told us that and we have seen that here so we believe she would do better with a woman. She was raised with kids since puppyhood but she seems to be a bit nervous and/or anxious, in general, so she may do best in an adult only home with a calmer, more relaxed energy. Macie did seem anxious on the ride to the vet and whined a lot. We are unsure if she was only doing that because she was crated for the ride and wanted out or because she just doesn't really like to ride. She did not get car sick so that was a plus. Macie was raised as an only pup with her former family but she has done fine with another small dog who recently came in. She could benefit from some socialization with new situations and building up her confidence since she does seem so apprehensive and unsure about things she is not familiar with. We think she would be fine with cats, other small dogs and older kids or a calm environment. She is very sweet and you can see she wants attention and a bond. It won't take much to get Macie where she needs to be and feel comfortable wherever she goes. We are still learning about Macie and she is still learning to adjust to rescue life so these observations are based on the very short period of time that she has been with us. A lot can change as she settles more into living with us and the initial trauma of a new environment wears off. We do think she will be a wonderful companion and will really blossom in the right home.
Macie saw the vet on 9/8/26 and was found to have no issues noted. She tested negative for heartworms and has been started on Simparica Trio for flea control and heartworm prevention. She also tested negative for intestinal parasites on her fecal. Macie weighed 6.76 pounds as of 9/8/26.
If interested in giving Macie her forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Macie's adoption fee will be $400 to help cover the cost of her vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Macie based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for her, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you.
