Maci's Story
**READ BEFORE APPLYING**

Maci had a really rough start to life and was severely undersocialized, so the world is still a pretty scary place for this little lady. After almost a year with her foster, she still does not allow herself to be petted or picked up. Maci is not a cuddly, people-oriented dog, and she is not looking for someone to change that.

What Maci does love? DOGS. She is a true dog's dog and is much more comfortable around her canine friends than she is around people. A confident, social dog in her forever home would be a huge plus for her.

Maci is not leash trained, cannot currently be handled like a typical pet, and will need some special considerations for grooming. Because she cannot safely be handled for grooming, she will need to be sedated for grooming and certain veterinary handling.

Maci will need an adult-only home with no children. Her adopter will need to understand that she is not currently a dog who can be picked up, petted, or physically handled.

Maci is looking for a very special home that understands that love doesn't always look like cuddling. Her person will need to be incredibly patient, realistic, and willing to let Maci exist on her terms rather than expecting her to become a traditional, hands-on pet.

She may never be the dog who jumps into your lap or asks for belly rubs - and that's okay. Her progress may look like choosing to stay in the same room as you, feeling safe enough to relax, or trusting you just a tiny bit more than she did yesterday.

Maci doesn't need someone to "fix" her. She needs someone willing to accept her exactly as she is.

If you're looking for a dog who will cuddle on the couch, Maci probably isn't your girl. But if you have a soft spot for the misunderstood ones and understand that earning their trust can take a very long time, Maci might be the girl you've been waiting for.

Maci's must-haves:
A dog-friendly home
Adult-only - no children
No picking up or petting
Not leash trained
Secure fenced in yard
Sedation required for grooming
An adopter who understands severe undersocialization and is willing to let her progress at her own pace
