Lulu's Story

Meet Lulu!
With her stunning cream-colored coat, and three legs, Lulu is hard to miss. This beautiful 4-year-old Golden Retriever has overcome more than her share of challenges and is ready to find a home that will love her for exactly who she is.
When Lulu arrived in our care, she had some complications from an old injury that never fully healed, leaving part of her leg. After treatment and careful evaluation, the decision was made to amputate the remaining limb. She's been recovering in foster care and has adjusted well as a happy, active tripod.
Lulu is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds with her people. Once she loves you, she loves you wholeheartedly. Because of this, her adopter will need to make sure she builds positive relationships with all members of the household rather than becoming overly attached to just one person.
One of Lulu's favorite things in the world is a tennis ball. She'll happily carry one around, chew on it, or simply relax beside you with it. She enjoys companionship and likes to know where her people are and tends to be your shadow. Although she is very demanding when you are home with her, she settles well with no issue when left home alone.
Like many dogs with unknown histories, Lulu comes with a few quirks that her future family will need to respect. She can be protective of her space and the people she loves, and she may become grumbly if she feels uncomfortable or crowded. Because of this, we feel an adult-only home is the best fit for her.
Lulu has previously lived successfully with cats and has done well with other dogs. However, any canine companion should be a good match for her unique play style and mobility as a three-legged dog. Meet-and-greets with resident dogs will be important.
She is a smart but stubborn girl who thrives with structure, consistency, and clear expectations. Lulu isn't a fan of going into a kennel and can be hesitant around doorways, thresholds, and especially elevated entrances, often needing a moment to gather her confidence before moving through them. She also prefers to keep all three paws on the ground and does not enjoy being picked up.
Lulu is looking for a patient, understanding adopter who will appreciate her for exactly who she is. In return, she'll offer unwavering loyalty, plenty of tennis-ball entertainment, and the special kind of love that only comes from a dog who's overcome so much.
If you're looking for a devoted companion and are willing to respect Lulu's boundaries while helping her continue to build confidence, Lulu may be the perfect addition to your family.

*Lulu is currently in foster. If you are interested in meeting her, please fill out an application and call to set-up a time to say hi!
