Meet Lucy!<br/><br/>This super cute and absolutely adorable Dachshund mix with shorter legs and one floppy ear tends to win people's hearts wherever she goes! Some dogs change a person's life forever. Now it's Lucy's turn to find someone who will change hers. Lucy first joined the Street Dog Hero family back in 2020, when she made the journey from our wonderful rescue partners near Guadalajara, Mexico. Before long, she found exactly what every rescue dog dreams of-a loving forever home here in Bend, Oregon, where she's spent the last several years as a cherished and devoted companion. Unfortunately, life sometimes brings changes that none of us can anticipate. Due to Lucy's owner's declining health and a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, she's no longer able to provide Lucy with the daily care, affection, exercise, and adventures that this sweet girl still enjoys so much. While this decision has been incredibly heartbreaking, it's being made entirely out of love and the desire to give Lucy the happy, fulfilling life she deserves. We're also incredibly grateful for Lucy's owner's close friend and neighbor, who has lovingly stepped in to help care for Lucy, taking her on nearly daily walks and play outings while helping during this difficult transition. It truly takes a village, and Lucy has been so fortunate to be surrounded by people who care so deeply about her. Lucy can be a little shy when meeting new people, but don't let that fool you. Give her a little time, plenty of patience, and a gentle approach, and you'll begin to see her sweet, affectionate personality shine. After spending years devoted to one special person, it's only natural that she'll need time to learn that her world can once again be filled with love, trust, and new adventures.<br/><br/>Her ideal home may be with a single woman or someone who's home more often and looking for a loyal companion to share life's quieter moments. We're pretty certain she'll take to men in the household too, as long as they're patient and gentle with her. Lucy loves nothing more than receiving cuddles and affection from her person, heading out on daily walks, exploring new places, sniffing every interesting scent along the way, and indulging in one of her favorite pastimes-keeping an eye out for lizards to chase! While Lucy does well around other dogs and has enjoyed meeting them throughout the years, she's never really been one to seek out canine playmates. For Lucy, life is all about her person. She'd much rather be by your side than in the middle of the dog park. As she continues building confidence and settling into her next chapter, there's no telling what adventures may lie ahead. Whether it's peaceful neighborhood walks, weekend road trips, exploring Oregon's beautiful trails, or simply curling up beside you at the end of the day, we know Lucy has so much love left to give.
