Lucy's Story

Meet Lucy Lou! 🩷🐾

Lucy, lovingly known as Lucy Lou, is a sweet, gentle Great Dane and Saint Bernard mix puppy with a heart every bit as big as her paws. She's the velcro puppy you've always wanted and wants nothing more than to be wherever her people are. Whether she's curled up beside you on the couch or attempting to climb into your lap, Lucy is happiest soaking up love and giving it right back.

Lucy has a calm, affectionate personality, with just the right amount of Great Dane drama mixed in. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and loves making new friends. In fact, she hasn't met a two-legged or four-legged friend she didn't want to shower with affection. She's playful when it's time for fun but is just as happy spending most of the day catching up on her beauty sleep.

Her favorite toys include chew toys, tennis balls, squeaky toys, and, every now and then, her foster sister's German Shepherd tail. When playtime is over, you'll usually find Lucy stretched out on the nearest couch. If a human lap is available, though, that's always her first choice. Inside or outside, she's simply happy being wherever her people are.

Lucy sleeps soundly through the night and has settled into a wonderful daily routine. She's making excellent progress with potty training and is learning her puppy manners like a champ. She already knows "sit," is working on "shake," and is eager to learn anything that earns her praise, treats, or extra cuddles.

Car rides? Count her in! Lucy enjoys tagging along for adventures, fully approves of the occasional pup cup, and usually finds the coziest spot in the car before snoozing through the rest of the trip.

Baths? Well... do we really have to? Lucy tolerates them just fine, but don't be surprised if she gives you the classic Great Dane look of disappointment and judgment afterward.

Rain? She'd honestly rather not be bothered by the falling sky, but she'll happily head out on an adventure if you're willing to get wet too.

One of Lucy's most entertaining features is her priceless, judgmental Great Dane expressions. She has perfected the art of silently questioning every life decision you make while somehow making everyone around her laugh.

Recently, Lucy had one of her eyes removed after developing severe swelling and increased pressure. She has recovered beautifully and is as happy and playful as ever. She gets her stitches out in just a few days and will then be ready for meet and greets.

Losing an eye hasn't slowed her down one bit. She races around the yard, wrestles with her brother like nothing ever happened, and still manages to hold her own. She doesn't require any special accommodations and lives life exactly the way every happy Great Dane puppy should.

Lucy is one of our Great Dane and Saint Bernard mix puppies, so she's going to grow into a very big girl. Like any giant breed, she'll thrive with a family committed to continuing her training and understanding the unique needs that come with owning a gentle giant.

A quick note about her adoption fee... We know giant breed puppies are an investment. Before Lucy goes home, we'll have invested well over $2,000 in her veterinary care, including vaccinations, microchipping, spay surgery, and a prophylactic gastropexy. We will not skip the gastropexy. Great Danes are at a much higher risk for life-threatening bloat, and this procedure is one of the best ways to help protect them. Her long-term health and safety will always come first.

Lucy is current on all of her vaccinations and will be ready to head home once her stitches are removed.

Lucy is located in Lewiston, Idaho. We welcome adopters from near or far, but she will need to be picked up in person so you can meet her and make sure she's the perfect fit for your family.

Lucy Lou is everything people love about giant breeds: gentle, affectionate, loyal, goofy, and overflowing with love. She'll happily become your shadow, your cuddle buddy, your road-trip companion, and your biggest fan. If you're looking for a best friend who believes she's a lap dog despite eventually weighing well over 100 pounds, Lucy Lou is ready to steal your heart.

Idaho Animal Rescue Network's Adoption Policy
Upon completing an application for adoption, potential adopters are contacted via email or phone to discuss the needs (present and future) of the animal they hope to adopt. Approved adopters are then invited to meet with the animal one-on-one to get a better idea of their personality. In some instances, we offer them a couple of meet and greets. Because some of our animals come from abuse/neglect situations, we do not ever rush adoptions and appreciate the adopters who understand this process. A home visit is required and if renting, a potential adopter must provide landlord information so approval can be verified by our staff. * We do NOT adhere to a first-come adoption basis. We seek the best fit for the animals in our care.
