Lucy's Story

Meet Lucy 🩷

Lucy is a 14-year-old Cockapoo who recently came into rescue after losing the only home she had ever known when her owner (and best friend) passed away. As you can imagine, this has been a huge adjustment for her, but underneath the uncertainty is one incredibly loyal little dog who just wants someone to love again.

Lucy’s favorite things are simple: going for walks, keeping watch out the window, being close to her person, and playing for a few minutes before deciding she’s officially retired for the day. She is happiest curled up near you and would gladly be your tiny shadow.

Lucy does need a little patience while she settles in. She was very nervous at first in foster care, but every day she grows more comfortable and affectionate. She definitely gravitates more toward women, though she is not fearful of men. Loud or busy young children can make her anxious, so we think an adult home or one with calm older kids who understand giving her space would be best.

She gets along fine with other dogs and walks beautifully with them. While she’s not interested in playing, she’s slowly becoming more social and curious around her foster siblings. She also earned rave reviews at the groomer — not a single complaint from her on spa day at Bark Avenue Dog Grooming!

Lucy does have a couple of quirks that come with being a senior girl. Sometimes if left too long, she has a hard time holding her bladder, so frequent potty breaks and a consistent routine will help her succeed. She’s also quite vocal and will absolutely let you know when she wants something. Depending on your perspective, that can either be adorable or a little bossy. 😉

One thing Lucy is excellent at? Taking her heart medications! Wrap them in peanut butter, cheese, or chicken, and she thinks it’s the best part of her day. Lucy will need to be on the meds for life.. and the cost is approximately $40 a month. Because of her heart condition, it is important not to let Lucy get overweight. She is currently at 15 pounds, which is perfect!!!!

Lucy is looking for someone who understands that older dogs still have so much love left to give. She may need time to trust, but once she does, you’ll have a fiercely loyal best friend by your side. Lucy is spayed, vaccinated and had a recent dental. Her adoption fee is $135.
