Lucy's Story
Lucy had a rough start moving from several homes (through no fault of her own) in her first three years, and even being renamed to Ruby. Her "government" name is Lucy, but she responds exclusively to Ruby. Or Rubes. Or Ruby Roo.

Ruby is a smart, athletic, and playful dog. She is extremely affectionate with those she knows and trusts and is a very sweet dog with her people. This pretty girl is all about affection because she’ll curl up next to you on the couch or bed, or happily snooze in her own doggy bed. Lucy is also famous for her “kiss communication” to let you know she needs to go outside or just wants to connect. This is when she’ll gently lick or boop your hand, elbow, or whatever’s closest. It’s adorable! She loves to lean into you for snuggles and pats.

She responds to "box" for entering her crate and quickly learned directional commands, such as "go upstairs" in her current foster home. She’s house-trained, crate-trained, and already knows tricks like sit, come, shake/paw and “home” (her cue to turn around on walks). Lucy is very food-motivated, so she’s easy to train and loves a treat after her morning walk. She's so willing to learn, if you have a favorite trick she doesn't already know, she'll master it easily!

Ruby walks well on a leash and responds very well to training strategies, rides happily in the car (though she may bark at motorcycles and other dogs),she loves to rest her chin on your left shoulder while you drive. She enjoys outdoor adventures of any kind. She loves to wade in shallow water too!

She is an active dog who would benefit from living somewhere with space, such as a yard or larger property, as she enjoys spending time outside. Ruby loves to play tug of war, chase, fetch, and to catch treats!

Ruby gets along with most other dogs as long as they are introduced off leash.

Ruby has lived with children ages 6 and up, including some with special needs. She may accidentally overpower smaller children, because she is a strong lady. At 72 pounds of pure muscle (and even more love), she’s the perfect mix of cuddly couch companion and spirited playmate.

She can be shy at first with new people, especially men, but her wariness will wear off quickly with treats and affection.

If you’re looking for a pup who will be your loyal sidekick, workout buddy, and cuddle partner, Ruby is ready to steal your heart and fill your life with joy.
