Lucy's Story

We would like to introduce you to Lucy, a young Maltese or Shih Tzu mix estimated to be about one year old.

Lucy came into our rescue in extremely poor condition. She was emaciated, little more than skin and bones, and her coat was so severely matted that she had to be sedated in order for us to safely remove the hair. When we saw how thin she was under all that matting, it was clear she had simply not been fed or cared for properly. Despite her beginnings she is very loving and wants attention and affectionate. Lucy will be spayed before adoption.

Over the past few weeks, Lucy has made remarkable progress. She has already gained 3 pounds and is steadily regaining her strength. Her personality has begun to shine through: she is spunky, high-energy, and very affectionate.

Lucy is still learning basic house manners. She is currently working on her housebreaking and improving her leash manners. She can also be mouthy at times, which suggests she may never have been taught appropriate boundaries about using her mouth with people. We are actively working with her on this, and she is responsive to guidance. She is a chewer and will chew on anything she can.

Despite her rough start, Lucy gets along excellently with all humans and truly does not have a mean bone in her body. She now enjoys playing with other dogs and would likely do well in a home with a compatible canine companion. However, Lucy is not suited for a home with cats.

Lucy is a resilient young dog who, with continued structure, training, and affection, has the potential to become a wonderful companion.

If you would like more information about Lucy or are interested in meeting her, please feel free to contact us.
