Lucy's Story
**Fostered in Birmingham, Alabama**

Meet Lucy - a stunning 3 year old petite Dane.

This young lady may be a smaller Dane, but her heart is huge. She’s had a rough start, but she’s already showing just how resilient and loving she is.

She came to us underweight and with scarring on her legs. The front legs are healing quickly, and while the back legs may always show signs beneath the surface, cosmetically they’re already improving. None of this slows her down—she’s feeling better every day now that she’s healed from her spay.

She appears to have been kept in a crate that was far too small in her past, but despite that, she loves her crate now. She is fully crate trained and house trained. She rarely makes a peep—her first crate “complaint” was a small whine to ask to go outside after a little too much water before bedtime.

Her temperament is excellent. She has:

- No food aggression

- No sensitivity to handling (ears, feet, between toes—no problem!)

- Easy, calm baths

- She’s gentle, affectionate, and just wants to be loved.

Like many young dogs who didn’t get a proper start, she’s still learning manners. She’s not leash trained yet and doesn’t quite understand boundaries—especially around food or other dogs’ bowls. She’s not strongly food-motivated, but if food is being handed out, she’d definitely likes to be included! She’s starting from scratch with commands and is currently learning by watching the other dogs in the home.

She’s playful, bouncy, and very much a puppy at heart. She greets with enthusiastic jumping, prefers playtime over rest, and brings joy wherever she goes. She does cower slightly if a hand comes over her head, but with an open hand she’s perfectly comfortable—just another sign she’s learning that she’s safe now.

And then there’s her personality:

- She snorts like a little toy pig

- Does adorable bunny hops when she runs

- Grunts while prancing around like she owns the place

- Loves playing ball and mostly brings it back

She’ll need an adopter willing to continue helping her gain about 15–20 pounds, teach her basic manners, and give her the patience and consistency she missed early on. In return, you’ll get a loving, goofy, loyal Dane who is clearly grateful to finally be cared for.

She’s on the right track—and ready for a home that will keep her there.

Lucy is fully vetted, spayed, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $350. To read over the adoption requirements before applying to adopt Lucy, please visit www.nwflgdr.com/adopt.

Please note: NWFLGDR does not transport. All approved adopters are required to meet and pick up the dog in person from his or her foster parent’s home.
