Lucretia's Story
Meet Lucretia

If you're looking for a best friend who will adore you with her whole heart, Lucretia may be your perfect match.

Lucretia came to us in June 2025, and since then she has blossomed into one of the sweetest dogs at the rescue. When she first arrived, she was shy and unsure of the world around her. Today? She's the dog we trust to help train our new volunteers! Her incredible journey is proof of just how much love, resilience, and trust she has to give.

At about 3 years old and 50 pounds, Lucretia is the perfect combination of playful goofball and loyal best friend. Some of our volunteers lovingly call her "Lucy" for short, but around here she answers to Lucretia, Lucy, "Who's a good girl?" and the unmistakable sound of a tennis ball being thrown.

Lucretia loves spending time with her people and firmly believes that if you're sitting down, there should be a Lucretia nearby. Preferably touching you. She has mastered the art of looking at her favorite humans like they are the greatest thing to happen since peanut butter.

Want to become Lucretia's favorite person? It's easy: bring treats and a tennis ball! This smart girl is highly food motivated and absolutely loves toys. A game of fetch and a few tasty snacks are the quickest ways to make her tail wag. She walks nicely on a leash, enjoys learning new things, and is always ready to participate in any activity that involves snacks.

Lucretia also enjoys making dog friends and loves running and playing along the fence lines with her canine neighbors. She may do well with another dog following a successful meet-and-greet. We also believe she could thrive in a home with children.

One of our favorite things about Lucretia is watching her transformation. The shy girl who once wasn't sure about new people is now helping train our new volunteers. She's basically been promoted to Assistant Volunteer Coordinator... although she insists her compensation package should include unlimited tennis balls and extra treats.

Everyone who knows Lucretia falls a little bit in love with her. She lights up when her favorite volunteers arrive and eagerly waits for walks, playtime, belly rubs, and quality time with her people. She's the kind of dog who forms deep bonds and loves with her whole heart.

The only thing missing from Lucretia's story is a family of her own.

She's spent far too long waiting for someone to see just how special she is. Somewhere out there is the person who will look past the kennel walls and discover the loving, playful, loyal companion who's been patiently waiting for her chance.

Could that person be you?

Lucretia is ready to trade her kennel for a couch, her volunteer-training duties for family movie nights, and her waiting for a forever home. The tennis ball is optional... according to Lucretia. (It is not actually optional.)

Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation, Inc.
