Lucky's Story

Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico's streets. The Meximutt Project, a BAPBR initiative, tackles this crisis at the source—through comprehensive spay/neuter programs and by connecting rescued dogs with loving Oregon families.

Since 2019: 400+ dogs adopted, 3,200+ spayed/neutered.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? Yes, but please keep in mind that they must be taught to respect the dog’s space, belongings, and food.

• HOUSEBROKEN? No, not 100% yet -- Please keep in mind that our dogs are rescued off the streets, they are NOT always 100% housebroken and will need time and patience to adjust. Even in a foster home in Mexico, the dogs are often living in an environment with no carpet or grass or living outside. In the house, it is usually tile flooring and outside it is dirt/concrete. Most of our dogs transition well and only need about 1-2 weeks to get on a potty schedule/routine.

• LOCATION: Currently in Guadalajara foster care. 2-4 weeks to arrange flight once adoption is approved

**Meet LUCKY**

Lucky was moments away from being hit by a car when Erika, a Meximutt Project foster, spotted him—a small white dog standing in the middle of a crowded highway, too weak to move out of the way. She pulled over and lifted him into her arms, feeling his ribs sharp beneath matted fur. "I honestly thought he wouldn't make it through the night," she remembers. But the vet stabilized him, and Lucky held on.

*A Dog Reborn*

The difference between then and now is startling. Where there was once a fragile dog too exhausted to lift his head, there's now a bright-eyed terrier who trots around the house with his tail wagging, eager to see what's happening. "He's like a completely different dog," Erika says. "You can see the joy in him now—he has a pep in his step when he takes his daily stroll around the park. And he actually plays. He'll grab a toy and shake it, then look at you like he's proud of himself."

Lucky has blossomed into a gentle, noble soul who gets along beautifully with everyone he meets: dogs, cats, children. He doesn't bark much, loves car rides, settles calmly in a crate, and is fully housebroken. He's still learning leash manners—the concept was new to him—but he's making steady progress and getting more comfortable with each walk.

*Your Easy-Going Companion*

Lucky is the well-mannered kind of dog who adapts beautifully to any situation. He's content in a busy household or a quiet one, with furry siblings or as your only pet. He enjoys his walks but isn't demanding about them. At night, he settles into his own space without fuss. He's cheerful without being hyper, affectionate without being clingy.

And for those who need it: his soft, wiry terrier coat doesn't shed, making him a great match for allergy-conscious homes.

*Could You Be Lucky's Person?*

This sweet boy fought his way back from the edge, and now he's ready for the life he was always meant to have. He's not asking for much—just someone who'll take him on walks, let him curl up nearby, and remind him every day that he's finally safe.

Are you the missing piece in Lucky's story?

***************************************

READY TO APPLY?
