Lucius's Story

Are you a poodle partisan? A patient person willing to help a pup who has never known what it is like to be a part of a family? Someone committed to helping a previous show dog learn that couches are for cuddling?

Let's start with the basics. Lucius is a purebred, champion bloodline, miniature poodle. No backyard breeding here, this guy shares DNA with Grand Champions. From his poodle prance, to his perfect build, he's the perfect specimen. But at 16 pounds, he is over the limit for his breed category, and so he was lovingly surrendered to rescue.

So why does Lucius need a very particular home? Because sadly, he spent a large chunk of his life in a kennel. Due to long work hours, and the nature of his home as a breeding dog, he is not well socialized to new people. His fear presents itself when he is confined to his kennel, and new people approach. It can be kind of scary at first, but after just 24 hours in his foster home, and the reassurance of the resident rotten babies (you LambHop, we are talking about you), he no longer displays any of those behaviors.

Lucius was just relieved of his prized plums, so we are trying to retrain those marking behaviors. He is doing wonderful with a belly band, as he becomes accustomed to having free roam inside of a home. He is currently being fostered with young kittens, small puppies, adult dogs, adult cats, and an older child. He coexists BEAUTIFULLY with everyone. We are going to steer clear of homes with small children since he is still nervous about life outside the kennel

We are just beginning to see the personality and confidence this boy has inside. He is treat motivated, and should be easy to train. He has shown zero resource guarding around his food or people. If you'd like to be considered for Lucius, please submit an app. If you have an app pending for other dogs, but would like to be considered for Lucius, please send us a message to let us know. He is neutered, vaccinated, chipped, heartworm negative, and on prevention. Please share his story so we can find him a perfect family
https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/OANR/Dog

Orphan Annie's Neonatal Rescue's Adoption Policy
Potential Adopters must first submit a written application. A member of our team does a preliminary check of the application for any red flags such as pet allergies or no permission to have pets with renters. We then call references, vet practices for insight on the potential adopter. We determine if the animal they are interested in will be a good fit for their life and their environment. We then set up in person meet and greets. We do not do same day adoptions at adoption events. We must have time to properly evaluate the application. We do not do meet and greets without an approved adopter. If the meet goes well, and the animal is fixed, microchipped, vaccinated, and healthy, they can take the animal after fee is paid and contract is signed.
