Lucas Australian Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler Williamsburg, NM

Hello! I'm Lucas! I know, I know. I am simply adorable! Best to take a look at my photos one more time to get the full picture of how amazingly cute I am, how gorgeous my red heeler coloring is, how both my gleeful pictures and my thoughtful pictures draw you into my world. Did you have another look? Good. I imagine we can agree that my looks put me pretty high up there in the "I Want This Dog" department! Fabulous looks aren't everything though so, without further ado, allow me to open the doggie door further into what I like to call, "Life with Lucas".

If you're interested in Red Heelers in general you might already know that my breed is known to be intelligent, alert, courageous, watchful, reliable, trustworthy. You might also know we have made great ranch hands because we were originally bred to perform demanding tasks with livestock and that we can be protective as a watchdog. Google will also tell you that we do not tend to be barkers and that Heelers require ample opportunities for exercise. Our loyalty to our people is legendary, as you might know. Yes, you can find all that on Google. But let's delve further into what I bring to the table personally. And since you can't Google "Life with Lucas", I'm here to share the straight story.

Some of the general information does apply to me, sure. Do I have energy? Yup! I will enjoy opportunities for exercise. I would like to have a life of fun activity like walks and playtimes, and also some mental stimulation like learning commands or puzzle feeders. Am I smart? Yes! I will learn what you teach me. Teach me a fun job, I'll perform it with delight! Seeing the happy look on your face makes me happy too!

But here's the catch. I am not a puppy; I'm an adult dog (around 6 years old or so) and so I also have interest in lounging, napping, relaxing. A mix of being active with me and Netflixing with me on the sofa sounds just about perfect to me! In addition, I am not sure about that watchdog quality applying to me. When I meet people I try to climb in their laps for snuggles first thing. I'm quite friendly to all! I don't have any preference for men or women, I am happy to be around everyone! I'm 50 pounds so if you need me to stay next to you on the sofa rather than sprawling out across your lap, you can teach me that no worries. But just know that I haven't met a stranger yet.
