During the day, he would hide in the nearby woods to escape the heat, but every evening he returned to the parking lot, waiting for his owner to come back. He struggled to find water and was often chased away by people who didn't want him there. Despite everything, Luca stayed in the same place for three months, faithfully waiting for the person who never returned.<br/><br/>Luca was well known among the local residents because whenever people walked their dogs, he would happily run over, hoping to play with them. The area where he lived was known for illegal dog meat traders, and several dogs had already been captured around that time. Many residents contacted the city and local shelters, asking for Luca to be rescued. To prevent him from being taken to the city shelter, where he could have faced euthanasia, a rescue group stepped in and brought him to safety. After completing heartworm treatment (heartworm free as of August 2024!) and neuter surgery, Luca is now ready for adoption and is waiting for his forever family.<br/><br/>Luca may be a little reserved when meeting new people, but he warms up quickly. Once he feels comfortable, he'll come over on his own for pets and affection. On walks, Luca can be cautious in unfamiliar environments, but his confidence grows as he becomes more familiar with his surroundings. Because he has a strong prey drive, he may suddenly try to chase cats, birds, or other small animals, so his handler should stay attentive. Although Luca is generally confident and outgoing, he also has a sensitive side. If something scares him, he may freeze or lie down instead of reacting. Gentle encouragement, praise, and making the experience fun help him regain his confidence quickly. He responds best to positive, relaxed training.
