Lua's Story

Lua / Female / 3 years old / 49 lbs / Boxer Mix / Good with calm dogs (male dogs preferred) / Good with dog savvy cats / Adults and Teenagers Only / From Mexico / Fostered in Warkworth

Lua's story began in Mexico, where her mother was living in a vacant lot, tied to a fence without a roof or shelter. It was there that she gave birth to four puppies, including Lua. Thankfully, our wonderful rescue partners in Mexico stepped in, cut her mother's chain, and brought the entire little family to safety.

From those difficult beginnings, Lua has come an incredibly long way. Today, she's affectionately known as "Miss Wiggle Butt," and it's not hard to see why! This sweet, playful girl has a whole lot of personality, an enthusiastic wiggle for her favourite people, and a wonderful story of growth and resilience.

Lua has spent the past year working hard to build her confidence, develop her social skills, and learn how to navigate the world around her. We're thrilled to share that she has officially graduated from her training program and is ready to find a forever home of her very own!

Lua is an intelligent, curious, and affectionate girl who loves being around people she knows and trusts. While she can be a little cautious when meeting someone new, she's made incredible progress in learning to approach unfamiliar people with confidence. She appreciates a calm introduction and the freedom to investigate at her own pace. Give her a little time, and you'll soon discover the friendly, attentive, wiggly girl underneath.

She's also a very clever student! Lua has mastered an impressive collection of commands, including sit, stay, come, place, leave it, drop it, and more. She's housetrained, crate trained, and has made excellent progress with her leash manners and impulse control. She's food motivated, eager to learn, and thrives with consistency and positive reinforcement. At home, she's generally calm and settled, although she does take her job as neighbourhood watch seriously and may alert you when something catches her attention.

Lua enjoys her walks, outdoor adventures, and spending time with her canine friends. She's had a couple of special friendships during her time in training, including Freedom and a young German Shepherd named Elijah. While she wasn't immediately sold on Elijah's enthusiasm, the two eventually became fast friends! Lua tends to prefer male dogs and appreciates companions who respect her space and communicate appropriately. She could happily be the only dog in her home or potentially share it with a well-matched male companion. She's also been tested with cats and has done well with dog-savvy felines.

Although Lua has come an incredibly long way, she'll still benefit from an adopter who understands canine behaviour and appreciates that confidence continues to grow with patience and positive experiences. She can be selective about her canine companions and may need time to become comfortable in new situations. Her ideal family will respect her boundaries, continue her education using fear-free methods, and help her build on everything she's learned.

Lua would thrive in a rural or suburban home, ideally with a securely fenced yard where she can enjoy the outdoors. She's looking for an adult household, although dog-savvy teenagers would be welcome. She would also do best with someone who isn't regularly away for more than four to five hours at a time. While Lua enjoys appropriate social opportunities with other dogs, busy dog parks and daycare environments aren't the best fit for her.

After all her hard work, Lua is more than ready for her next chapter. She's playful, clever, full of character, and has so much companionship to offer the right family. All she needs now is someone who will appreciate her wonderful wiggles, continue cheering her on, and give her the loving home she's worked so hard to be ready for.

Due to Lua’s unique circumstances, her adoption fee has been sponsored by Fetch + Releash. Approved adopters must also commit to continuing training with a certified positive reinforcement trainer following adoption to help set Lua up for success.

If you're interested in adopting Lua, please apply at
https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form

To learn more about our adoption process, please visit our FAQs at
https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/about-us#about-faqs
