LuLu's Story

7 year old, 35 pound LuLu (DOB: 5/08/19), was left tied behind a vet clinic. That vet clinic was no longer operational at that location, so thankfully a neighbour saw her tied up and local Animal Services was contacted to pick her up.

LuLu is noted by her original owner to be a pocket bully.

She had a note left with her, stating her name & age, as well as the situation she was left behind and some information on her personality, though none of the details left have been accurate to our or the shelter assessment's (will be shared with potential adopters invited to the adoption process). The note is posted on our social media platforms and will also be shared with potential adopters, invited to the adoption process.

LuLu was in the shelter, sadly with pyometra, a serious, life-threatening infection of the uterus in unspayed dogs, causing the uterus to fill with pus and toxins that if left untreated will ultimately lead to death.

We pulled her from her Ontario shelter and rushed her into surgery to have a spay which resolves the pyometra. We ran bloodwork on her which was all great, other than mild signs of the pyometra infection.

She also has mild dental tartar and slab fractures of both upper canines, but our veterinarian didn't feel they required extractions. She does have some missing teeth, including 305, 202 and 405 as well as 2 lower incisors. But her mouth is considered in good condition which is great for a 7 year old dog, but she will require a dental with extractions in the next few years for sure.

Finally, LuLu appears to have broken her tail at some point in her life. Her tail has a severe bend in it, though it doesn't seem to bother her at all and probably a very

$1,821.85 was spent on LuLu on arrival.

LuLu has proven to be a great dog in rescue and at the shelter. There have been no behaviour concerns introducing her to multiple pets in the shelter or with the trainer she is living with.

Because the note left with her stated she had issues with female dogs and didn't like children rushing up to her Mattie's Place opted to place her with a trainer to live with to fully assess her and work on any behaviour issues that may have come up. LuLu is just proving to be a great dog.

That said, I will not place her in a home with kids under the age of 15 and adopters must have bully breed experience. Can she be around kids, with supervision? Absolutely. Can she live with kids? Not a great idea based on owner notes.

No cat testing and given her breed I won't consider a home for her that has a cat or cats.

LuLu would do best in a home that doesn't have elevators or hallways. There's no specific reason for this decision, but given she's a bully breed I just don't want to chance her in a confined space with other pets.

An active adopter ready to play and adventure with their dog would

FROM THE FOSTER:

Lulu is built like she does deadlifts before breakfast and finishes her day with a protein shake. She may be compact, but this girl is ALL muscle — and she uses every ounce of it to launch herself directly into your heart (and occasionally your personal space).

Lulu is sweet, affectionate, playful, and absolutely convinced that humans were designed primarily for cuddling. She loves being close to her people and has a hilarious enthusiasm for life that makes her impossible not to laugh at.

She is also a certified toy annihilator. If a toy claims to be ā€œindestructible,ā€ Lulu considers that a personal challenge. Durable chews and supervision are definitely recommended.

Lulu is currently working on her leash manners and learning that she does not, in fact, need to immediately throw her entire body weight into every exciting moment. She’s strong, enthusiastic, and still polishing up her impulse control, but she is very food motivated and enjoys training sessions — especially if snacks are involved. (Although she would prefer to skip the training part and simply steal the entire treat pouch.)

She is fully crate trained and does beautifully in her crate. Lulu goes in and out willingly, settles quietly, and is happy to relax there throughout the day or sleep there overnight.

In her interactions with other dogs, Lulu has shown no signs of reactivity. She is interested in other dogs but has been able to walk by them calmly without concern.

Continued slow and appropriate introductions would still be important in any new home.

Lulu is a goofy, strong, affectionate dog with lots of personality. She has plenty of playful energy and so much love to give.

If you’re looking for a dog who is equal parts cuddle bug, comedian, and tiny tank… Lulu might just be your girl.

----------------------------------------

$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting.
