Louka is a handsome 2-year-old Pit Mix weighing over 55 pounds who is ready to find the forever family he deserves.<br/>His story began when he was found roaming the local baseball fields, surviving on whatever he could find-including trash around the complex. When animal control was called, they expected to be dealing with a frightened, possibly feral dog. Instead, they were greeted by a friendly boy who was already neutered and clearly knew many basic commands. It quickly became apparent that Louka had once belonged to someone. Whether he escaped or was abandoned, we'll never know-but sadly, no one ever came looking for him.<br/>As shelter staff got to know Louka, they discovered what a wonderful dog he truly is. He made several canine friends during his stay and did great with CARE's assessment dog. Louka enjoys the company of other dogs and would likely do well in a home with a canine companion. Cat testing can be arranged if needed.<br/>Louka has also attended several school functions and has done wonderfully with children. He's a social, affectionate dog who enjoys being part of the action. Like many young dogs, he has a playful side and will thrive with a family committed to providing regular exercise, enrichment, and mental stimulation.<br/>Today, Louka is safe with CARE and is currently enrolled in the Paws in Prison Program, where he is continuing to build on his foundation of good manners and obedience skills. This program provides daily structure, training, and socialization, helping dogs like Louka become the very best companions they can be. His future family will benefit from the time and dedication being invested in him as he prepares for life in a loving home.<br/>Louka has already shown that he's smart, eager to learn, and eager to please. After everything he's been through, he's ready to leave his days of fending for himself behind and start the next chapter of his life with a family of his own.<br/>Could Louka be the missing piece in your family?<br/><br/>Louka is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. His adoption fee is $300.<br/><br/>Louka is in the Paws in Prison program, where he receives basic obedience training. He will graduate from Paws in Prison on 8/8/2026. The dogs in this program are provided basic level training under the AKC Canine Good Citizen standards and are specifically selected to be family and companion dogs. They spend 24 hours a day with their trainers. So, there will be an adjustment period as they adjust to their new family schedule.<br/><br/>For this reason, they will do best in homes where they are primarily inside dogs and spend lots of time with their families. The adoptive family will receive his training journal.
