Louise's Story

Are you looking for a young, pretty girl? My name is Louise and I'm looking for an awesome family. I turn two years old in April, 2025 and I'm well behaved for a girl my age. My exercise run buddy got adopted and he is doing well. I've had a few male companions since then but would really love a home of my own.

If you ask the volunteers to describe me, they will say that I am "pretty, loyal and protective but playful and sweet." I love getting and giving hugs and belly rubs.

I came from a shelter in the western part of Virginia. I was turned in by someone who was breeding Pyrs to sell and I was not one of those purchased. But I'm not sad...I'm now in a fun and loving place with some buddies to play with and volunteers who enjoy loving on me.

Volunteers enjoy walking me - lots of sniffing to be done and watching the woods to see if there are any critters to report. I do like to alert our rescue friends when someone comes up the long driveway. We just want to keep everyone safe.

My goal for 2025 is finding a forever home - that is the most important thing.
P.S. Hoping my new home has air conditioning and a comfy bed!

All Great Pyrenees require a fenced-in yard (at least four foot high). If you have questions about the breed or our adoption policies and procedures, please go to our website at www.agprescue.org. There's plenty of good information about the breed on our website - Pyrs aren't a breed for everyone!

Our adoption application is online: http://agprescue.org/adoption-application/agpr-application-donations/ Please note that we are a small regional rescue organization. We will consider adopting to families within a four to five hour drive to Richmond, VA

Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue's Adoption Policy
We believe that any prospective owner of a Great Pyrenees should be educated about the breed and we stand behind all of our placements for the life of the dog. If you adopt a dog through AGPR, you can expect us to be there if you have any questions about the breed, if you need help, if you’re having problems, or for any reason at all. If for any reason you can’t keep your adopted dog, you must return it to the rescue. We expect all adoptive homes to an adequate physical fencing, to be able to care for a large breed of dog, to provide appropriate medical care, and to be committed to making the adoption of a rescue dog a success. Our adoption fees are $400 for adults and $450 for puppies (12 months and younger). All dogs have received medical care, are up to date on shots and are spayed/neutered and microchipped. Adoption fees go directly to our rescue fund to help pay for the health and vet treatment of previous and newly rescued Pyrs.
