Louie's Story

From the owner:
Louie is really sweet with the kids and truly loves affection. Any affection given usually turns into him asking for belly rubs. He loves running around in the yard, playing ball, jumping in the snow, and hiding under blankets.
Louie is crate trained although we have never used a crate with him. He stays in the laundry room during the day while the house is at school and work with a baby gate and he does really well. He is potty trained and knows basic commands. Louie likes the leash and does well with a harness. He likes to counter surf which is a habit that we have not been able to break yet along with the barking/anxiety around strangers.
Louie does not like new people coming over to the house. He will growl and bark when meeting guests that come to the house. He will continue to bark during interactions even after guests have been in the house several hours. Louie is possessive of affection, food, and toys. He has never bitten anyone or any of my kids (we have 4). He would not bite if a person or child reaches into his bowl, but if another dog were to do it he has gotten aggressive. Anytime we have been trying to take something away from him if our other dog is also interested in the item Louie nips him on the side or legs and that has caused spats between the two.
Good with kids and cats. Good with dogs that match his play style. Does not do well with strangers. Consulted the vet, I think Louie needs a home where he can be the only male or the center of attention
We took Louie in from an unfortunate circumstance hoping to find him a home. He was being crated 12-14 hours a day so we did not want to surrender him to a shelter. We asked family and friends as well as acquaintances but have not been able to find him a home. Louie and our permanent resident 3 yo male Staffy mix got along well when we first introduced them. Lately within the last two months they have been getting in progressively worse arguments with one another. They are now getting into fights that we have a difficult time separating them. One fight sent Louie to the vet with an injury to his back and our Staffy has suffered several puncture wounds. We have tried separating them, feeding them separately, and now we are not allowing them to play together anymore which isn't in best interest for either of them. We consulted our veterinarian about the fights between the two and they advised me to contact adoption centers or surrender him to a shelter because the behavior is only going to escalate.

New2U Rescues's Adoption Policy
About Our Adoption Process We are a foster‑based rescue — we do not have a shelter. All of our dogs live in loving foster homes so we can truly understand their needs, personalities, and what type of home will set them up for a lifetime of success. Our goal is always to make the best match between adopter and dog so they never have to be rehomed again. We reserve the right to decline an adoption if we feel it is not the right fit for the dog. No meet‑and‑greets will be scheduled without an approved application. Adoption Application: https://www.cognitoforms.com/New2URescues/AdoptionApplication Location & Adoption Radius We are based in Rochester, NY and primarily adopt to homes in this area because: -A home visit is required before any adoption -A meet‑and‑greet with the family and existing pets is required These steps are easier and more realistic for local adopters We may consider homes a few hours outside the area if all requirements are met and the match appears exceptional, but local applicants are always prioritized. Fencing Requirements Some of our dogs require a physical fence already in place at the time of adoption. We do not accept invisible fencing and do not allow the use of e‑collars or shock‑based training tools. This is written into our adoption contract. We do allow case‑by‑case exceptions for: -Active families -Homes where someone is home more often -Homes without multiple dogs -Families willing to install a zip line or similar safe containment option -Small breeds and mellow adult dogs may not require fencing. Veterinary Requirements If your current pets are not up‑to‑date on vet care, including being spayed/neutered, we cannot approve your application. This is non‑negotiable and will be verified with your veterinarian. We also require that you use preventative for Heartworms as it is far more common in area. If you have an unaltered pet because you intend to breed, your application will be denied. Application Process & Communication If your application successfully submits, you will receive a copy by email. If you did not receive one, neither did we — please check your spam/junk folder. We often receive multiple excellent applications for the same dog. Only one home can be chosen, and sometimes a wonderful applicant simply isn’t the right match for that particular dog. We keep applications on file for 6 months. If you’ve already applied, you may email us at new2urescue@gmail.com with the dog’s name — no need to reapply. About Our Dogs We are a 501(c)(3) registered charity and are also registered with the NY State Department of Agriculture (Reg. No. 33). All dogs are: -Microchipped -Fully vetted with age‑appropriate vaccines -Dewormed and treated for any medical issues -Spayed/neutered (In some cases a special contract is used if not yet spayed/neutered finalizing once completed) -Heartworm tested if age‑appropriate -Senior dogs often receive a dental at the time of spay/neuter -Treated for any other issues required to be healthy as noted by our vet. We disclose all known medical or behavioral information. Our goal is transparency so each dog finds a home for life. Breed and age are often our best educated guess based on information provided when the dog enters rescue. Our Philosophy Our priority is always the well‑being of the dog. We want every dog to find a home where they will be loved, understood, and safe for the rest of their life. The more information you provide on your application, the better we can determine whether a dog may be the right match. One‑word answers make it difficult to assess suitability — thoughtful detail helps us help you. 📌 Application: https://www.cognitoforms.com/New2URescues/AdoptionApplicationNew2URescue
