LOLA - JJ (NEW MEXICO)'s Story

This girl is ready to give you a lot more years. With her size and weight she likely has many more and is not considered a senior by any means. Please if you wish to adopt her go to www.jcldr.com and put in an application. No one is obligated but once we see your application we will call and visit with you. We want every one to win here and her to have a forever home. We stand by our adopters and fosters. If you need help with online tech stuff do let us know.

STATS, OVERVIEW: Lola is a 7 year old spayed, (as of this year 2026) fully vaccinated female Catahoula mix. She lives with her owner in Albuquerque, New Mexico and needs a new home. She is completely housebroken, and crate trained to an open wire crate and does best with white noise present as well. Her weight is approximately 55 pounds. She is good with other dogs except her littermate that she came with. They are too competitive with each other. He’s in her space too much, so she needs some space that’s totally hers. She won’t be pushed around with any dog. Like most Catahoulas she will stand her ground. A run easy playful dog would work and she does respect other dog’s boundaries and gives them space too. It is not unusual for littermates to end up as they age, not getting along. No cat tests so the answer to that is no. Do not know about children, has not been tested out. She is very playful so children that are children and in groups, might overstimulate her and she may enter into the playing roughly. Typical Catahoula leash puller but will allow a check on it and responds.. unless there is high stimulus or competition. She likes to be a part of the action with other dogs. She has been in multiple dog pack activities and has done well with that. Any sized dog any gender. She does play rough like a Catahoula but more run and chase. She is vocal to get attention from the pack but it is more game. She’s been in doggie day care/boarding and done great there with the strangers and other dogs. She loves riding in the car but does move around unless reasonably restrained. She is not a good lap driver. She wants to be near you and help. Not a good plan. Not nervous in a vehicle and is likely to stay excited, then calm. She is great with veterinarian care, they like her and she’s never needed forced restraints. Nail trims are a challenge but she can safely be restrained at a pet place that does it, or at the vets and it can be done. A common story among many dogs, many breeds. They consider you a predator when you attack their feet. That is so common but workable. Her favorite ball is Chuckits. No stuffed animals, she thinks they need shredding. She does love ropes. She loves to tug with ropes. She has puzzle games that are safe and she does well with these, supervised. Likes them. She is very food motivated which makes her extremely trainable and focused and she is willing to learn new things and even eager. She has never been exposed to bodies of water, not even mud puddles thank goodness on that. Mom’s don’t like swamp puddle dogs. She is a good alert watch dog, and a vocal dog when necessary, but she’s not excessive with barking when the environment is calm. Very balanced on that. She is competitive with dog’s toys and she’s not typically interested in sharing. She is not ugly about it. She loves to dig and isn’t excessive but if left to boredom and unsupervised.. she will make a garden spot for you. Auto rototiller. She much prefers to be with her people than left out as a yard dog. She loves to cuddle up with you and lay her head on your lap waiting for you and being there for you. She is very affectionate and wants to be in your space with you.

HISTORY: Owner was in college and found them beside the road while going to his job and became a “good sam”. They were stuck between tumbleweeds, in a hot sun and one of their dumped buddies was run over and three were left. The other one went to a shelter and adopted out right away.. so the two went to their home for nearly 7 years. The bunch of them were maybe a month old when dumped beside the road. They are being rehomed due to future changes in the “good sam” He has owners life.

GOOD: No human bite incidents, she loves the humans sometimes too much and doesn’t get what personal space really means. Surely they need a lap dog. Or someone to cuddle. She has a huge heart and is also extremely smart. She thinks she knows how to run a house and she makes a great partner-dog with the right structure. When she loves her people, she fleas them which is a dog’s way of grooming each other.. it is not biting, it is little nibbles like flea nibbles. That is her way of showing affection. So don’t box her ears for that. This is not unusual for some dogs.

BAD: She is an explorer by nature. She is a counter surfer as most Catahoulas are, so no food where she can steal it because she will. She can be a runner also, when she’s at home and owner is there, she looks for the opportunity to get out and see the world. She’ll escape over low yard fences. She is very agile and curious. After some time she may meander her way back home, but Supervised outside is always the best solution. The owner has learned how to outmaneuver and out sprint her. She takes a moment to warm up when meeting and greeting people.. initially barking at the perceived intruder. After some time with the stranger, they become just another one of the pack for her. She is easily overstimulated sometimes and gets distracted from the almost perfect dog she really is. She can be re-focused most of the time. Carry chicken or bread. It will bring back her focus.

UGLY: Growling when needing space or when overstimulated... nothing else ugly to report.
