Liza Jane's Story

Meet Liza Jane!

Liza Jane is a sweet, easygoing girl who is finally getting the fresh start she deserves.

After her owner passed away, Liza Jane's family surrendered her to the Chillicothe Animal Shelter in Missouri. Through no fault of her own, she spent a whopping ONE YEAR and SEVEN MONTHS in a kennel waiting for another chance. :(

Day of the Dogs has been volunteering with this rural shelter to get their long stay dogs seen. From the moment we met her, we knew she was a special girl.

While the shelter was filled with barking dogs, dogs jumping at their kennel doors, and the constant chaos that comes with shelter life, Liza Jane did something different. Liza Jane is wonderful with other dogs. She enjoys playing when the moment is right, but she's just as happy peacefully coexisting with her canine friends. In fact, her calm, friendly temperament made her one of our "tester dogs" when introducing other shelter dogs because we knew we could count on her.

Liza Jane has the kind of gentle, steady personality that makes life easier. She's the dog who will happily join you for a walk, curl up beside you while you watch TV, or simply keep you company through everyday life.

After losing the person she loved and spending over a year and a half in a shelter, Liza Jane deserves to know what it feels like to be someone's beloved dog once again.

She's not looking for perfection.

She's simply looking for someone to choose her again.

Could that someone be you?

Basics: She is a spayed female guessed to be around 6 yrs old and she weighs close to 45-50lbs. She is overweight now due to the lack of exercise for so long. She is currently in a foster home in Michigan City, IN.

Adoption Process:
- Please fill out our adoption application: https://www.dayofthedogs.org/adoption-application

- One of our team members will get back to you via phone.
- Our dogs can be seen by appointment only. We do not have a facility at this time. Dogs are in foster homes or boarding
- Adoption fee helps to cover transport costs, spay/neuter, initial vaccines, rabies, fecal, initial worming, and microchip.
-We do not place holds on our dogs. Please do not contact us until you are prepared to adopt. NOTE: We are very good about updating the pet's profiles once adopted. So no need to write us to ask "Is he/she still available?" If the post is up, the dog is still available.

About Day of the Dogs
Day of the Dogs is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping shelter and rescue dogs find safety, families, and second chances.
Founded in 2015 by a Kansas City native, Day of the Dogs began after Pam moved to Houston, Texas and witnessed firsthand the devastating shelter overcrowding crisis facing southern communities, where some shelters have only days to find an outcome for homeless pets.
Today, Day of the Dogs coordinates life-saving transports from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and other southern areas to rescue partners, shelters, fosters, and adopters in Northwest Indiana/Chicagoland and the Kansas City region — communities where adoption demand can help create better outcomes for pets in need. We also focus on long stay dogs in the Greater Kansas City and surrounding rural areas to help those pets get out of kennels and into homes.
We also facilitate direct adoptions through our foster networks in both Kansas City and Northwest Indiana and partner with shelters and rescue organizations across Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, and Indiana to save more lives together.
Because every open foster home creates another opportunity to save a dog, we are always looking for foster families to join our mission.
Day of the Dogs operates entirely on donations. Every transport, veterinary appointment, supply purchase, and life saved is possible because of supporters who believe every dog deserves a chance.
Donate or learn more: www.dayofthedogs.org
