Lily Lou (Foster to Adopt)'s Story

FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

---

Meet Lily Lou. This sweet girl is looking for a loving trusting home that will give her the time to blossom into the lovely dog we know she will be. Sadly, she was adopted as a puppy through our rescue by a previous foster family for an older parent. And while they promised she would be part of their home even in the event of the parent's life change, four years after the adoption she was returned. to us. Her owner went to an adult family home and Lily was dumped, extremely overweight and pretty shut down.

Currently in a boarding foster situation, Lily is learning to trust. The kennel staff love her and say every day is better than the previous one. We discovered she is good with other dogs. We are hoping to get her into a foster to adopt home that is patient and kind. Lily is a good 15# overweight and is on a reduced calorie food. As a foster to adopt home, we will provide food and veterinary care until she has settled in her new home. We have volunteers currently working with her too - expanding her circle of people she knows. We think a secure fenced yard would be a good idea.

We never did DNA as a puppy because she was a singleton. We think she's bully mixed with maybe basset or dachshund - due to her low rider body and front feet structure.

This dog is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated.

The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training. Lily will likely take a few weeks to relax in her new home.

Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.

Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood.
Adoption fee is $225. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.

Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your dog.
