Lilly's Story
Meet Lilly
AKA: Princess Lilly, First of Her Name, Guardian of Warm Spots and Connoisseur of Peanut Butter

Breed: Dachshund
Rescue: Albert's Dog Lounge.
Age: Senior
Weight: Just under 15 pounds of pure love
Foster Home: Fox Point, WI
Activity Level: Low-key and fabulous

Before We Go Any Further...

Lilly is a special-needs girl with a seizure disorder, and we want to be upfront because the right family will see what we see: a sweet, happy little dog who deserves every chance at a wonderful life.

Her seizures are well-managed with medication. She takes Keppra three times daily and Zonisamide twice daily, with medication costs averaging approximately $60/month. She can also take Diazepam to halt seizures if necessary. While she may always experience an occasional breakthrough seizure, they are currently happening only every 6-8 weeks, and she recovers quickly, shakes it off, and goes right back to being Lilly.

The goal isn't perfection it's keeping her comfortable and minimizing seizure clusters and she's doing beautifully.

She also has a mild Grade 2 heart murmur and occasional nighttime incontinence, but don't worry, Princess Lilly has everyone thoroughly trained and keeps life interesting with creative laundry systems.

(Suspenders to keep diapers on a dachshund have been discussed. Dignity prevailed.)

Lilly's Resume

Snuggle style: Pressed firmly against your leg on the couch. If you stand up, your warm seat immediately becomes hers.

Sleep style: Burrowed under blankets in the big bed with her people and dog friends. She'll happily use a long ramp to come and go as she pleases. She also sleeps nicely in a crate.

Bark-o-meter: 1/10.

And honestly, that's generous.

She'll issue exactly one bark when she needs something:

"Excuse me, I'd like to go outside."
"Mother, I require assistance onto the sofa."
"Dinner appears to be running behind schedule."

A princess doesn't raise her voice unnecessarily.

Shedding meter: 2/10. Just enough glitter to remember her by.

Favorite color: Hot pink, obviously.

Best accessory: An oversized tee knotted 80s style, scrunch socks, Reeboks, and a side ponytail. Extra points if she's sunbathing.

Walkout song: "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benatar.

Because life certainly has, and Lilly keeps getting back up.

Professional Skills

Champion sunbather. Lilly would happily roast herself on the patio all day long if allowed.

Peanut butter sommelier.

Expert warm-spot thief.

Friend to dogs, cats, and respectful children.

Master cuddler without being clingy.

Blanket burrowing specialist.

Possessor of soulful eyes capable of melting grown men.

Speaking of Men...

Lilly has a type.

She's a shameless flirt with the gentlemen and will gaze lovingly into their eyes as though they've been reunited after decades apart.

The women in her life?

They're acceptable.

Second choice, perhaps, but acceptable. You know, the spare.

Foster dad, however, is apparently irresistible.

Fine Dining

Since her seizures first appeared, Lilly has enjoyed a clean fresh-food diet to support her overall health and gut wellness. She currently dines on Raised Right Pork & Pumpkin or Beef & Pumpkin recipes twice daily and takes a few supplements with her meals.

She's very enthusiastic about food, but always polite. A lady never rushes the chef.

Lilly has lost nearly four pounds since entering rescue and is now at a healthy weight, which is important for maintaining her back health. Despite her adorably saggy little belly, she's trim and feeling great.

About That Back...

Lilly had one episode of severe back pain in the past and was diagnosed with IVDD, but she has had no recurrence and has been doing wonderfully. She uses her long ramp to the bed like a pro, though she remains stubbornly convinced that some ramps are beneath her.

She walks with an absolutely adorable little twisty swagger that only adds to her charm.

Personality

Snuggle bug
Quiet and easygoing
Sweet beyond words
Low-maintenance
Patient
Gentle
Professional couch companion

Princess Lilly isn't looking for perfection.

She's looking for someone who understands that a few extra pills, some occasional laundry, and the rare seizure episode are tiny prices to pay for the kind of love that only a senior dachshund can give.

Because once those soulful eyes lock onto you, you'll realize something important:

Lilly isn't broken.

She's just wonderfully, beautifully, unapologetically Lilly.

And trust us, she's worth every bit of it.

Microchipped
Spayed
Housebroken, Lilly was left in a home with only one daily visit for food, so she is working on refining her potty habits. She will stand at the door and bark politely to go out, however she also likes to play a game of only actually going outside the third or so time you open the door! She will consistently use potty pads, especially during bad weather.
Crates are perfectly fine, and a great place for a private snooze!
UTD on vaccinations
UTD on preventatives

Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs.

Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog.
