Lilac's Story
Meet Lilac, y'all. Foster mom's best guess is Terrier mix, based on those long legs and floppy ears, and at 18 lbs she's a great size for apartment or rental living. She's medium energy, dog friendly, cat friendly, and best buds with fellow FTAF pup Max (they've been caught tag-teaming zoomies together more than once. Ask us about a discount for adopting them together!).

Heads up! Apply now, go-home date is 9/24: Lilac has a cherry eye correction and her spay both scheduled, and she'll be ready to go home 9/24. We're listing her now so an approved adopter is lined up and ready the moment she's cleared, because she's been in foster too long to wait to go home.

The basics: Up to date on vaccines; spay scheduled. Not yet formally child-tested, but her temperament suggests she'd do well with kids. She is very dog and cat friendly, but takes a little while to build trust (she was very fearful at first but plays a lot now!).

Manners & training: Lilac's a work in progress in the best way. She's nearing fully housetrained but still has the occasional accident, and she's actively learning her basic manners like sit. She is kennel trained and practicing coming when called the FIRST time :). Adopters should be ready to be patient while she finishes adjusting to a new home and settling into her training, the same way any young dog would.

Her story: Lilac came into LASPCA's shelter incredibly fearful, the kind of scared that makes it hard to imagine a dog ever coming out of her shell. She's come an enormous way since then, learning to trust dogs, cats, and people alike, and watching her get braver by the day has been one of the best parts of her foster's job. She has since been diagnosed with cherry eye, which is fully correctable; her cherry eye correction surgery and spay are scheduled together, and FTAF is covering 100% of both procedures. She'll go home already recovered and cleared.

Lilac would thrive in a home that:

Can be patient with a dog who may still be a little fearful at first, and give her the time and space to keep being brave
Has patience for a young dog still finishing her house manners and training
Can offer another friendly dog for her to play with (she loves a buddy) — maybe consider adopting her friend Max too, at a discount!
Fits her medium energy level with regular playtime and exercise
Works well in an apartment or rental-size space because she's the perfect size

Restrictions: None known at this time; not yet with young children specifically, though nothing suggests incompatibility. Adopters should be prepared for some initial fearfulness/shyness as she settles into a new environment; she has a strong track record of warming up, but it takes her a little time.

Adoption fee: $190
Location: Greater New Orleans, LA

A note on medical history: Lilac will go home fully recovered from her cherry eye correction and spay. Every FTAF dog has a documented eye-care history as part of our mission, and there's a small chance issues could resurface down the line — we want adopters to know her story going in and feel ready to provide any needed follow-up eye care. FTAF is always here as a resource if that happens.

Ready to meet Lilac? Apply here or email fuzzytowersanimalfoundation@gmail.com — the sooner an application is approved, the sooner she can go straight home on 9/24. Heads up: submitting an application doesn't guarantee placement — approved applicants still do a meet-and-greet with Lilac and her foster before anything's finalized.
