Licorice's Story
Licorice is three years old, about 40 pounds, and covered in the kind of soft, medium-length black fur that makes you want to keep petting him until somebody from management asks you to move along.
He is a fabulous combination of play and affection. He loves toys. He loves other dogs. He LOVES cuddles.
Recently, I brought him a giggle ball - a hard plastic ball that makes bizarre giggling noises as it rolls around.
It's basically a haunted bowling ball for dogs.
Licorice was fascinated.
He picked it up, carried it directly into his room, and carefully deposited it there, because that's where important things go.
I assumed he wanted some alone time to study it.
A few seconds later, his head appeared around the doorway. He looked at me, then disappeared back inside.
This wasn't a request for privacy. This was an invitation.
Licorice had taken his wonderful new treasure to his favorite place, and he wanted me to come in so we could enjoy it together.
That's Licorice - curious and playful, but he doesn't want to investigate life by himself. He wants you sitting on the floor beside him while a mysterious plastic object giggles and everyone agrees that this is an excellent use of the afternoon.
When playtime's over, Licorice is equally enthusiastic about cuddling. He has the unmistakable expression of a dog who believes every human is a dear friend who has been missing for several years - even if that human merely stepped outside to retrieve the haunted bowling ball.
Come meet Licorice at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, Virginia. Visiting hours are 9 a.m. to noon every day, including weekends and holidays.
Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!

PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.
