Leo's Story

Meet Leo! He is a ridiculously handsome 1.5-year-old boy who came to Suncoast Basset Rescue from a breeder, where he spent his early life living outside and was not raised as part of a family. Because of that, the indoor world, routines, and all the comforts of home are brand new experiences for him but he is learning rapidly. He is hard to miss—Leo has no shortage of ears or personality (or those signature basset “cankles”). Leo gets along great with other dogs, and his foster siblings are playing an important role in helping him learn, feel safe, and settle into this new lifestyle. Having canine companionship is clearly something that helps him thrive, and a confident dog buddy will be an important part of his forever home. For the first time, Leo gets to enjoy being part of a home: soft places to rest, steady care, and the attention he’s been missing. With patience, guidance, and a canine friend by his side, he’s discovering what it means to just be a loved family dog. Leo will also need a securely fenced yard to help him safely enjoy outdoor time as he continues building confidence and adjusting to home life.
