***Leelah***<br/>4 year old female black Lab mix<br/><br/>Hi, I'm Leelah and I'm a 4 year-old female black Labrador Retriever/Great Pyrenees. I lived in Ohio with my dad my entire life until he died not too long ago. And now I am looking for a patient, loving new home where I can settle in and truly bond with my new people.<br/><br/>I am currently living with an active foster brother south of Pittsburgh, PA (Bethel Park) and I'm fine with him, but I'm just as happy to be the only dog as well. I've met some doggie friends and have enjoyed them as well. I'm not particularly interested in playing with them because I don't know how yet, but as I get more comfortable, I may be willing to learn.<br/><br/>I can also live with cats---I've been around several of them and I don't mind them at all. <br/><br/>I can be a little timid at first, but that's because my dad lived with and took care of his dad and we didn't get out a lot. I am very friendly with people though, including children, although since I never lived with them I would say 8 and up are good for me. I'm find around littles that visit though. <br/><br/>Once I decide you are one of my people I am affectionate, enjoys cuddling and am happiest simply being close to the people that I trust. I have lots of toys, but I'm not really sure what to do with them so that makes me well suited to someone who wants a loving, steady companion rather than a dog who needs constant entertainment. <br/><br/>I am very smart and know commands but sometimes I can be a little slow to follow them--if you are patient and praise me and are consistent, I will understand what you're looking for.<br/><br/>I love going for walks and enjoy getting out to explore, but my leash skills are a work in progress. I didn't go for walks much with my dad and there's so much to see! I am a strong puller and can be reactive on a leash, but this is all new to me. As long as my new family is willing to take the time to continue working with me on calm walking, focus and confidence around distractions I will be fine. There's just so much to see!! And I would love to go on hikes or walks in the park with my new family. <br/><br/>At home, I am a wonderful house companion. I'm fully potty trained and not disruptive in the house. Crate training is still a work in progress. I eat in my crate and will go into it, but it's not my favorite place to be. My dad didn't use a crate with me, but I'll get there. <br/><br/>I've had a lot of changes in the past few months, but I've settled in nicely with my foster family. And it's time for me to find my forevers where I can settle in for good. I'm not going to be the dog that bursts through the door asking "When does the party start", but I will be the dog who quietly finds my people, settles in and becomes a devoted part of their lives. For that reason, I would do best in a home where I am not regularly left alone for long periods of time--more than 5 or 6 hours.
