LAYLA's Story

Layla was rescued In Puerto Rico where it is common for pet owners to simply abandon pets they can no longer support. Layla was a victim of those circumstances and was abandoned 2 weeks before Christmas. Today, Layla is currently being fostered in Columbia, MD.

Layla is an adorable and incredibly friendly pup; she is most active during the day. And the least active at night, once she founds her comfy spot on the couch; it is lights out for her. She only awakens if she hears dogs in commercial or horses neighing (she hates Westerns). As a committed early bird, Layla prefers her humans to be settled and not roaming the house at all hours of the night. She cannot relax if you’re not relaxed.

Layla is super playful and affectionate towards people and children. She also loves walks or as I call them: “intensive sniffing investigations.” She is walked 3 times day on a regular schedule; this prevents accidents in the house and is also good way to get her energy out during the day. Layla also loves playing with dogs (big, small, or in-between). And she absolutely adores cats although the feelings may not be mutual. “Zoomie” sessions with her feline foster brother, Louie, is a lovely display of unbridled joy.

Layla is 100% healthy, and there are no neurological issues or any signs of aggression. She is crate-trained and prefers to be in her crate when it time to relax. She is curious and smart as a whip. I still cannot comprehend how she managed to open a jar of peanut bar. She knows some basic obedience (i.e., sit, come, down, up, and holy sh*t), and she is eager to please, so solidifying further obedience training will be fun.

Layla has received all the recommended vaccines; and has a 6-month supply of Nexgard (flea and ticks) & Heartgard (heartworms). She also received recommended lab tests to rule out parasites and other illness. She had her spay surgery on 2/15.
