Farfel's Rescue was contacted by his foster (who already had fallen for this cutie-pie) telling us that she loved Latke so much that she realized he needed more in life than she could offer. She explained that she lived in a small apartment and her new job kept her away for many hours. <br/><br/>Latke's foster gave us the following valuable information insuring that we will find Latke a family that is the perfect match.<br/><br/>Latke has received 12 hours of training by a certified positive reinforcement trainer over the course of several weeks. This included basic house skills such as sit, down, stay, come and drop it. We're thrilled to say that Latke is completely house-trained (no accidents over his several week stay with his foster).<br/><br/>Latke's general temperament was described by his trainer as happy go lucky and fun-loving. He loves adventures and being outdoors. Long trail walks and playing with another dog who matches his energy is right down Latke's alley. Farfel's feels that a fenced yard and another dog is imperative for Latke's happiness in his new home.<br/><br/>Latke loves his car rides! He enjoys looking out the window and watching the activity outside. He does get excited when he sees another dog. His foster suggested either a crate or blocking his view outside with a shade. That worked very well for her and calmed Latke's puppyish reactions down.<br/><br/>Latke has been to a groomer for a spa day. He had no issues with his grooming and behaved very well. The groomer described Latke as a non-shedding dog who will only drop a hair here and there. Latke will therefore require a grooming regimen every 8 - 10 weeks or so. <br/><br/>Latke is up to date on his heart worm prevention meds. He received Sentinel on June 6th. Five months of preventative will be included in Latke's care box.<br/><br/>Latke absolutely loves his current diet! He has never displayed guarding behavior around his food or people. He happily enjoys Chi Diet (chidog.com) twice each day. This is a fresh, human-grade diet. New research is clear that a fresh diet for dogs is highly recommended for health care, coat care and longevity. Latke has that super-healthy look about him derived by his excellent diet, exercise and just his happy and positive nature.<br/><br/>Latke will thrive in a home as a family dog! We would like to see our guy in a home with a dog-crazy family. Older kids are preferred so there's no tail-pulling or awkward handling. Active retirees who have the time and love for a very loyal and sweet pup would be perfect for Latka. We'd hate to see him left alone all day while his family works full-time outside of the home. Latke seems to be too sensitive for that type of arrangement. He'll thrive on spending his days near his people and doggie friend(s) while getting loved up periodically throughout the day.<br/><br/>Farfel's Rescue would like to see Latke in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and tons of loving hugs. A virtual or in-person positive reinforcement training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a sweet pup whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. <br/><br/>Latke will be arriving in Boulder once we have a family that is a great match for him.
