Lassie's Story

Joyful. Smiley. Gentle. Silly. If you're looking for a dog who brightens your day simply by being herself, you found her! I'm Lassie, a 10-year-old, 55# Border Collie mix, and I'm proof that growing older means you get better at appreciating the good things in life. My theme song is Happy by Pharrell Williams, and once you meet me, you'll understand why!

These days, my favorite things are simple. I love a nice, leisurely walk, followed by a fluffy dog bed where I can stretch out and relax. If it's warm, an AC vent works too!! I'm also an enthusiastic fan of pets, attention, and giving kisses to my favorite people.

My ideal home is peaceful with a family who enjoys staying close to home and believes in getting out for daily exercise. Short strolls are my favorite - I'm an amazing walking companion. My stamina is building as I lose weight toward my 45# goal. Traffic, strange noises, and other dogs do not bother me. My fosters have taken me on outings to a parade and a brewery, and I got an A+ at both events!

I could happily live with another calm dog or be your one-and-only. Cats are no problem - we can coexist easily. Gentle, calm children could be part of my family, too. A fenced yard would be wonderful but its not a requirement. I want to be near my people, only outside if they are with me.

You can leave me loose in the house for short periods (my fosters have left me for a couple hours so far). After suddenly losing my person, a lot has changed for me. My foster family is helping me learn to feel relaxed, and I move a little slowly due to extra weight and minor arthritis. Each pound I lose makes me feel much better! (My haircut is part of the 'feel better' plan too - my mats are gone! One of my pictures shows my beautiful coat that will grow back soon.)

If you're looking for a sweet companion who appreciates quiet days, comfortable beds, gentle affection, and little adventures, I might be your girl. My forever home will gain a little happiness every single day.

Lassie is being fostered in Savage, MN. APPLY to adopt her at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt

Lassie is taking supplements and medication that are approximately $60/month. We believe weight loss and time to settle will make the world of difference for this special girl, reducing the need for these items. Details will be provided to interested families.

Her adoption fee is $250 plus Minnesota tax. Lassie is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Heart of a Border Collie Rescue's Adoption Policy
Please read 'Do You Have What It Takes' on our website (www.hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt) before applying to adopt a dog through our rescue. You may also find information about Border Collies helpful (www.hoabcr.org/border-collie-info). Steps in our adoption process include: 1) Filling out an application. Taking this step indicates you are truly interested in adopting a dog - it is not binding. 2) If your application meets the requirements for the dog you're interested in, it will be screened through an initial interview with one of our volunteers. If your application does not meet the requirements, you will not be contacted. 3) If we determine your home could be a good fit for one of our dogs, we will complete reference and vet checks, and set up a home visit, which may occur in person or virtually. 4) If approved, details about your application are sent to the foster that has the dog that you're interested in. If the foster feels you are a match for their foster dog, they will call you to talk in detail about the dog, and possibly move to an in-person meeting. Meetings are allowed AFTER applications are fully approved as described above. 5) If that dog is not deemed to be a good match, we may suggest another dog for you, or your application will be kept on file for a potential future dog. 6) Adoption is complete with payment and a signed adoption contract. Our adoption fees are specified in individual Petfinder listings. The fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm and Lyme tests, rabies & distemper & Bordetella vaccinations (if old enough). Our dogs go to their new homes with a collar, harness, leash, rescue ID tag, starter food, toys and blanket. We are required to charge appropriate MN sales tax.
