Lark's Story

I’m Lark, a thoughtful, sweet 17# Border Collie girl born in mid-December 2025. I’m looking for a family that understands the best relationships are built on trust, patience, and love. My personality shines brighter every day, and I am truly a special girl.

At first, I'm a little shy - the big world is new to me! At my core, I am a happy, playful, affectionate pup who absolutely adores my people. I love chew toys, wrestling with my foster canine sister, zooming around at the park, and soaking up praise and love from the humans I trust most. I’m a sensitive soul, true to my breed. My life's goal is a deep connection with my family – you can see it in my eyes! I will be completely devoted to my very own special people.

Because I’m still learning about everything, I want to find a patient home that will help me build confidence at my own pace. Positive, low-key socialization is very important. Loud noises, cars rushing by, and pressure can feel overwhelming. Obedience classes are a must - I learn quickly and love it! I’m learning to walk on leash, getting on a potty schedule, and do well in my crate after some exercise and mental stimulation. I sleep quietly in my crate at night. Because I'm still very young, I need potty breaks every few hours.

My ideal family has experience with Border Collies, or maybe other higher-energy, smart dogs. They will enjoy keeping my mind and body active as much as I do. A confident canine sibling would be a huge bonus because another friendly pup helps me feel brave and secure. Teen kids that won't overwhelm me could be a good fit. Dog-savvy cats are probably okay too if they won’t run, because I might chase them for fun!

My foster mom says: It's easy to tell when Lark trusts you: she looks to you for guidance and support. Once that connection is built, your heart will belong to her forever. The very lucky family that adopts Lark will find they have their a once-in-a-lifetime dog.

If you can see my loyal heart waiting to bloom into your best best friend, we should meet! APPLY to adopt me at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt

Lark is being fostered in Eagan, MN.

Lark's adoption fee is $550 + MN sales tax. She is microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. She will be spayed when she reaches 6 months of age. The cost of this procedure is included in her adoption fee. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Heart of a Border Collie Rescue's Adoption Policy
Please read 'Do You Have What It Takes' on our website (www.hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt) before applying to adopt a dog through our rescue. You may also find information about Border Collies helpful (www.hoabcr.org/border-collie-info). Steps in our adoption process include: 1) Filling out an application. Taking this step indicates you are truly interested in adopting a dog - it is not binding. 2) If your application meets the requirements for the dog you're interested in, it will be screened through an initial interview with one of our volunteers. If your application does not meet the requirements, you will not be contacted. 3) If we determine your home could be a good fit for one of our dogs, we will complete reference and vet checks, and set up a home visit, which may occur in person or virtually. 4) If approved, details about your application are sent to the foster that has the dog that you're interested in. If the foster feels you are a match for their foster dog, they will call you to talk in detail about the dog, and possibly move to an in-person meeting. Meetings are allowed AFTER applications are fully approved as described above. 5) If that dog is not deemed to be a good match, we may suggest another dog for you, or your application will be kept on file for a potential future dog. 6) Adoption is complete with payment and a signed adoption contract. Our adoption fees are specified in individual Petfinder listings. The fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm and Lyme tests, rabies & distemper & Bordetella vaccinations (if old enough). Our dogs go to their new homes with a collar, harness, leash, rescue ID tag, starter food, toys and blanket. We are required to charge appropriate MN sales tax.
