Lara's Story

Lara's story will never fit on a flier-there's too much to say about this incredible girl. She is one of those dogs who has known years of surviving after being discarded. Has it been since she was a puppy- or in her young adulthood- or older? We don't know, but what we do know is that she was discovered by our partner in rescue in NC living as a stray with her puppies. How many times has she struggled after giving birth? We know of last year when we took both of her pups and they were adopted, and twice more since. Lara and her daughter would not be captured without befriending mom and then trapping the daughter. So both became Diamond dogs and were heart worm positive. Her daughter was well enough to be fully vetted, but Lara was not so lucky. Her tests showed she was living with a failing heart that was heavily congested with heart worm...her lungs were filling with fluid, she struggled to breathe and would not make it for ANY surgery. With TWO vet consults suggesting humane euthaniza we decide she was a hospice case and deserved to be "fospiced" as long as she was comfortable. But Lara was determined to surprise us...not just with her determination, but we learned she was pregnant AGAIN. Not only did she survive the birth (although she lost all but one puppy) she is now thriving and ready for a home! In spite of so much sorrow in Lara's life she is the most loving dog to people that I know. She works hard to please her human and there is no doubt her whole world would be her family. She is strong and smart and will make an excellent family companion. She is dog selective, and although living with several dogs, she can be bossy. We are sure years of living on the streets taught her to be in command. If you are looking for a super incredible dog, Lara is a good choice!

Our Mission
Our rescue focus is on adult dogs from the southeast that are in high kill shelters.  Our plan is to fully vet as needed, evaluate and train as needed in preparation for adoption.  We place our rescues in a foster home setting to prepare our dogs for a home of their own and to determine the best match for that rescue.
