In December, he underwent a balloon valvuloplasty that we hoped would give him a long, healthy life. Despite our best efforts and extremely positive odds, a recent follow-up showed the procedure didn't work as we'd hoped, and Koda may not have the long 10-15 year life we were all fighting for.<br/><br/>But here's the incredible thing about Koda: he didn't get the memo! Meeting this sweet boy, you would never know there's anything going on with his heart. This 70-pound gentle giant doesn't have a mean bone in his body, and he's got nothing but love to give. Koda loves people of all ages and gets enthusiastically excited on walks and in public simply because he wants to say hi to everyone he meets! He's a superstar at group events and adventures, and has bonded quickly with many of his foster siblings.<br/><br/>Koda is a total sweetheart with a whole lot of personality - he's talkative and opinionated, and isn't afraid to let you know how he feels (especially if he thinks he's been wronged)! He's a classic Shepherd through and through: he wants to know everything and be part of everything going on. He's currently in his teenage phase, which means he's got plenty of enthusiasm and could use some guidance to help him settle - he's smart, food motivated, and eager to learn, and thrives when his brain gets a workout with puzzle toys and games.<br/><br/>Things To Know about Koda:<br/><br/>• Sweet, curious, and confident personality with adorable oversized ears<br/>• Loves other dogs and does great at group walks and events<br/>• Pulls a bit on leash because he's so excited to greet everyone<br/>• 100% housebroken<br/>• Does well in his crate, including overnight alone<br/>• Doing well with cats, though he gives them their space and respects their boundaries<br/>• Would benefit from some training and mental enrichment like puzzle toys, which is typical for a young pup his age<br/>• May need time to adjust to smaller dogs and would need a dog savvy cat who can set boundaries<br/><br/>Koda's resilience, strength, and happiness are nothing short of extraordinary.
