One breeder pleaded to 22 counts of animal cruelty and the other was convicted on 22 felonies and 59 other misdemeanors. Koa came to us quite literally on the brink of death. But his incredible will to live carried him through, and today, he’s a strong, curious, handsome boy trying to understand the world around him.

While his body has healed, some of the emotional scars remain. Koa is still learning to fully trust his environment, and his journey is very much ongoing. He has good days and harder days, sometimes one step forward, two steps back, but he never gives up, his curiosity keeps him achieving. You will keep that forward momentum with lots of reinforcing praise. A simple no will suffice as correction for this big boy. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body but his bark is impressively loud. This has to be a consideration should you choose bring this love bug home.

What Koa wants most is love, attention, and treats from his own human. He gets along with other animals but most important to him are his people. He is curious, and gently playful when he really trusts. He will do best with someone who gets down on the floor with him, to brush him, give him lots of belly rubs and has patience when he gets scared. He is not afraid of thunder, the vacuum, or the leaf blower at home. But he is learning to deal with mechanical noises and voices coming from elsewhere. Koa is independent. While he may prefer to sleep alone at night, he will want your 100% attention first thing in the morning, even before he goes outside, this boy wants to bond with you. He can be left alone in the house and shouldn’t be crated. He’ll find a smaller room or other spot for his alone time. He can go up and down stairs, go through a dog door, and knows basic commands, but he is on his own timeline.

Koa is proof that even after unthinkable cruelty, healing and hope are possible.
------------------------------------------------
Ground transport assistance may be available within 1K miles depending on where you live and the availability of volunteer drivers along the route.

Veterinary reference is required on all adoptions.

NO APARTMENT HOMES

NO LIVESTOCK

MUST HAVE SECURE FENCING

FOR MORE INFORMATION EMAIL US AT BigPawsK9FosterHouse@gmail.com

FOR INFO ON FOSTERING AND FOSTER TO ADOPT
https://bigpawsk9fosterhouse.rescuegroups.org/info/display?PageID=22334

FOR INFO ON ADOPTION https://bigpawsk9fosterhouse.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption

TO FILL OUT OUR ONLINE APPLICATION
https://bigpawsk9fosterhouse.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=7537
